dissolved organic compound. do a search on it and you will find lots of info relating to your situation. yes, same as used in a salt water setup. protein skimmer or refractionator. it will remove the slight coloring of the water and smell. when you mentioned clear, do you mean being able to see a coin clearly at the bottom of your pond? do you have bubble foam on the surface? if your answer is yes to both, then you might just need a skimmer. if you can't see the coin clearly, you might need a uv. cheers
