Green Water ... Story!!! Can't Post

Had some cloudy water...not green water.... cleaned the filter..... Also, back washed(a old swimming pool filter) the Bio-ball filter.... water turned GREEN ...LIKE NOW!!!!

Replaced 1/2 of the pond water (1800 gals.)... still a bit green and a bit cloudy............

FOUR DAYS LATER... pond had just about returned to normal...almost clear!!! Was considering a UV light ....

Question: How does a Bio-Ball filter have anything to do with preventing algae growth... it seems to in this case???
That is, the algae is no longer growing at the rate after the back washing of the bb filter..

I think the question is "how" did you clean the filter...?

How can make all the difference as a wash of the biofilter with anything other than pond water at low pressure can wipe out much of the bacteria and water will go green in a HURRY! Algae prefers ammonia to nitrate as its first food source, and if your biofilm is set back by a good "scrubbing" the algae bloom will set in rapidly to take over. Once the biofilter has time to recover it can then go back to starving the algae back out of existenceLaugh
