Mohan, Thanks for putting up the notice. Hmnn.... I hope the lack of response is not a sign of lack of interest in the topic of getting our koi ready for competition.
Preparing kois for competition is like conditioning an athelete for a 100 meter sprint. When to bulk up, when to do the speed training, when to built up stamina and when not to peak out Kois are just like that.
This is my experience while preparing my kois for last year's koi show. I thought, 2 of my kois would be very suitable candidates for taking big prizes at the show. So I set myself an eight months program to improve Hi, get good Shiroji, and a juicy body to boot. I gave plenty of tender loving care, the best of food, tip top water conditions, plenty of aeration etc..and by the 5th month , I had the Hi licked and then worked on the Shiroji BUT by show time, both the kois will not bulk up no matter what I did!  SO you can guess how they did in the show... Yes, my kois weren't impressive -"NO OOMPHH" although they had the quality. One came in 2nd and the other; not even placed
Then guess what???? 2 months after the show, all my kois in the pond started to bulk up!! Wah Lun!! So what did I do wrong..?? I am sure to ask Mr Yap.
How about getting super Shiroji ready for the shwo.. my routine worked but caused me a bomb in special food. The secret method is so cheap, I was banging my head ...."How come I didn't know" One dealer will not tell no matter what... Now I know.
OK.. A little about Mr. Yap. Many will know he is a leading koi dealer and has been in the business for decades. He has been bringing in many show Champions. He is also highly skilled at grooming kois for shows. When I mooted to have Mr Yap give this talk, a koi veteran says there is no way he will agree to it. As they say "If you dont ask, you wont" know"
Lacking the standing with Mr Yap, I got a koi kichi who is very close to him to send in the Club's request. When we met to discuss the proposed talk, we found out that he is a very willing teacher but to his customers only lah...
