Photo Gallery – Ooi Tong Sun’s House Can't Post

Hi There,

On 13th April 2008, the club organized a visit a to Mr. Ooi’s house at USJ. At 11.am. we started the day at Mr. ooi’s house at No. 64 Jalan USJ 18/2C, Subang Jaya, Selangor. Members were shown his 100 over ton pond supplied with underground water.

Later, we were taken to his exotic bungalow in the vicinity. Members were captivated to see his two medium sized ponds stocked with high grade kois. Mr. ooi kindly consented to net three of his versatile kois namely a 61cm Yamato kohaku, a Kohaku purchased at our club’s auction and a 75cm Kohaku.

After the food for thought, we were also entertained to snacks and drinks.

This was my second visit to Ooi’s house and I noticed Ooi was the same person after a lapse of a few years. Perhaps the koi keeping is keeping him young and full of spirit. Thanks Mr. Ooi.
Thanks to all members for making it an unforgettable koi day.

Some pix for those who missed it all.

Hi Mohan,

The 3 nos. ponds visit was indeed very edutainment. Here are more pixs. to share with all.

Pond No.1 is a 105 ton pond with 7'0" depth. Notice the 2nos. upstand pvc pipes on the left of the
photo which is connected to a pump for underground water supply. The water is not clear becos'
of the direct underground water supply to the main pond.

Stand pipes in the Dry Chamber contained 2 nos. of air-stone which are placed at different level to
encourage more water over flow. Notice the lone stand pipe at the bottom without the Hi-blow turn on.
Apparently, Mr. Ooi is very pleased with this simple device becos' all the debris in the system are
constantly discharge out from the main pond and filter chambers. One can set the Hi-blow unit on timer
to control the amount of water out flow daily.

This Kohaku is from the Maruboshi farm. The owner bought her at tosai for only Rm600! and she is slightly over 4 years old. another forumer Dennis has another Maruboshi also at 4+years and is over 80 cm. According to him, when young the Hi is rather pale, a charcteristic of this breeders kois but deepens as it grows. And they are fast growers As we can see here, the quality is very good. So if you guys are yearning for similar kois, look out for this breeder.

I am so very fortunate and excited to have the opportunity to personally see such
a very beautiful Yamato Nissai koi measuring 62cm in length on our shore.
Mr.Ooi bought this koi directly from Japan during one of his trip there. Am posting
another photo for all to viewWinkWink.

Mr.Ooi explaining to members the benefits of setting up a mini-clay quarantine tank to treat koi
with ulcer problem. He places the clay soil under the hot sun for drying out and then subsequently
grinding it down into powder form to be applied for his 3 ponds and quarantine tank.
Apparently, koi with ulcer problem will be cured after being kept into this clay filled quarantine tank
for 2 weeks. He also mentioned that koi with Hikkue may also disappear, but the problem will re-appear
again in another couple of months. Well. no harm trying it out yourself, right!

The final clay powder product being kept in a plastic container. No need to spend large
sum of $$$ purchasing purification powder etc. Ain't that wonderful?
