Carp pox - Lymphocystis Can't Post

Hi guys,

Recently i have acquired from a good friend a 26in Male Showa, which has skin growth which looks like raspberry, its reddish-gray in appearance, bout the size 4-6mm on two locations, one on the shoulder and the other one at base of its dorsal fin.Unsure
a brief history on this fish, before i got it from my friend, he's been with 70 other koi's in an 18ton pond, no transmission has ever occurred in the other kois. (well, not that i've known of or seen...but that would be another storyFrown) he told me that, only a month ago it has shown signs again of this reddish growth, and they transferred it in an aquarium, for medication or quarantining. he doesnt really have the timeUnimpressed to quarantine the fish so i asked him if i could take over.Angelic it has been with me for 8 days now and has been quite activeSmile at the QT-250gal, specially if feeding time comesSmile. treated it with melafix for 7 days (for any bacterial infection) and .3% salt has been maintained (for parasites), every two days - 20% water change. it has shown great improvement and the growth has shrunk in size and no regrowths any where in the body. body slime has normalized and broken fins have healed. and i know Viral Disease has no cure as of yet!Unsure so then comes the greatest problem of all..... *what to do with the koi, after the pox has sloughed or disappeared? should i introduce it to my main pond with my other kois? Albert your experience and great wisdom i need.... koi sifu...

Re: [acuygongco] Carp pox - Lymphocystis [In reply to] Can't Post

Dear acuygongco

The fish is fine carp pox is NONE CONTAGOUS. Some people mistake herpes virus with hepatitus virus wich will impair the imune system. Carp pox is not this and it will not affect other fish.

Always quarantine new fish for a minimum of 8 weeks gradualy increaseing the temp to around 22 degreas C hold for a week and then allow the water to return to normal.

Stress will bring out an attack of carp pox as will cold weather. It will however pass the virus on to it's offspring so you need a plan when it comes to spawning.
