Cotton white patches Can't Post

One of my Koi has cotton like strands on it (Bacteria?) I moved it to a tank. Don't have a real tank use a large rubbermaid container (12 gals.) Fish is 5 inches. I have a pump pumping water to a hose that is acting like a waterfall, will this aerate the water, do I need a filter. What should I do to treat the fish, are my other fish in the pond at risk, if the fish recovers how and when do I put him back in the pond, the tank is in a warm house and the pond temp is at 30-40 degrees right now. Sorry I know these are alot of question but I'm new to the pond scene - trying to save my fish.

Thanks for the help,
Dale

you have SAP in your pond, most the time SAP attack in spring time. You do not have to separate the fish, since SAP exist in all water. high level of salt 6% use as a bath in about 1 hour will eliminate it. Malachite green can be used to eliminate all SAP of the whole pond. most the time, malachite green sold along with formalyn as ProformC or Quick Cure. I suggest you clean up your pond , new water and treat with ProformC all along.
In case SAP attacks and make hole in the fish, use a Qtip with iodine and spread over the wound. then use dental powder to seal it. It's be allright.

sorry to hear your fish is dead. SAP do not kill that fast. it attack the skin, make hole then bacteria get in. the fish die that fast means the quality of water the tank you use do not get to normal standard. it's always need filter and prime the water until all parameter reach to good number. then put the fish in. We never really know anything until disaster struck. At least we have chance to learn. Don't be sadden. multiply your dead fish to 100 time. that what it take me to learn.
