Dropsy Questions

I have a koi that is now showing signs of what I suspect to be "dropsy." I am going to attempt to include two pictures taken a few days ago. My questions are as follows... all of these questions are asked with the understanding that we realize what he has is most likely fatal. 1. I had read that a warm water (76-80*), high salinity (6 lbs to 100 gal) quarantine area is beneficial to POSSIBLE success/life. I had also ready that a salinity bath such as this is painful for the koi. Is it? Is there a way to make it less painful? How long should we maintain the higher salt content? 2. From the onset of visible symptoms what is the average time that death is expected to occur? 3. If he's not showing signs of bulging eyes, does that mean that we might have caught it early enough that we have a chance in saving him? 4. There is such a huge difference of opinion as to whether or not dropsy is contagious. For safety sake I have begun treating my pond with "Fungus Eliminator" (I read somewhere online that this might help). My understanding is that only the weaker fish or those with open wounds are susceptible. My concern is that during the winter aren't all of our fish in a weakened state? With all of that said ... an employee at a local pond business told me that our koi had what she called "cancer" and to just leave him be and let him live out his days … there was nothing we could do and that he was not contagious. She also advised that I could add a little more salt to the pond to keep any of the other fish from stressing. She also offered up the idea of euthanasia. How do you euthanize a fish? Thank you in advance for all of your advice Nancy
