HELP PLEASE... Can't Post

Dear Koi Lovers,

I have a 20" koi that had different sizes (.5cm to 1cm) of wart-like growth on its body. After treating it with Methylene blue, Malachite Green, Bactocide, Tetracycline, Japanese Furusan, Salt, dimilin and whatever I could find in the Pet Medicine section, most of the smaller ones disappeared except for the two 1cm size growth. (Please look at the attachment).

It has been quarantined in a small 70 gallons aquarium for 6 months with 50% water changes every week. But there was no sign of improvement. Last week, I drained the aquarium and I pointed a garden hose at the warts, and one came off the body with an ugly scar.

My question is:

1) What are the wart-like growth? Some said they are tumors and should be removed surgically. Others say they will just disappear with frequent water change.

2) Since one on them came off with the pressure of a garden hose, should I do the same to the other one.

3) These past few days, I saw small .5cm blisters like chicken pox. Now, is it sick with koi pox.

4) Other than the ugly wart, the koi swims graciously, flip nor flash and has a voracious appetite.

5) Is there any medicine I should use to cure this ugly sick koi?

PLEASEEEEE HEEEEEELP!

Dear jtlee

It looks like carp pox to me. I notice you have used many cures for something that isn't harmful to the fish or contagous to the other fish.

Stress makes the pox worse and a stress free enviroment and warm weather eases the problem.

It's very simaller to human cold sores just not so contagous.

A coutionary note is to know what your dealing with before adding all these chemicals, Killing with kindness dose happen.

Hi Zoul,

Thank you for your advice.

But I don't think it is cold sores because we live in the Philippines and temperature this summer is up to 37 degree centigrade.

Anyway, yesterday, I drain the water until the remaining tumor was showing. Then I aim the garden hose at the tumor and it came off, I hope there will be no more complication.

Dear jtlee

Cold sores are a result of a virus plus stress. I'm sure you know someone with a coldsore, as they are coursed by the herpese virus in humans. Herpese rosta mostley and even in warm weather people get them when they get stressed.

Fish have a simular virus athough not as contagous but will show when they are stressed. Not just weather dependant.

But if you do Know what they are please let me know.
