Jumping Koi Can't Post

I have a 3 year old koi that keeps going on jumping sessions, I think its probably trying to achieve some sort of high jump record. Unsure I have noticed that one of its fins twitches but this could be me being paranoid. I think i might net it and give it the once over. Why would my koi be jumping? Its only the one but it does it nearly every day. It also flashes on its side now and again. When i bought it one of its scales fell off in transit.

Do koi fish ever jump just for the hell of it, or does it always mean they are not happy? I am concerned it going to jump out of the pond.

Re: [r_oco002] Jumping Koi [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello, koi and fish do JUMP! Like dogs bark, there is a reason! One may be that he is just jumping to catch some bugs!! Or the others are that the water quality is not good, or he has a sickness! Best thing to do is take him out and check him! Also send us more info about your pond!

Dear r_oco002

It's not that uncommon for fish to jump, But the twitching of the fin and flashing says it has something thats anoying it. Like an itch that needs scratching.

If other fish start doing it and they do it often then you might be looking at a parasite infection. But if it's just the one fish then keep an eye on the water conditions and keep up the maintanance.

But it could be just the joys of spring don't over do it you can kill with kindness as well.
