KOI Flashing and Multiple treatment Can't Post

Dear all,

I recently posted my new pond in the members pond. However still waiting for some flashing and new fish problem comment. This is a repost under the health and disease

Currently I have in my pond
2x koi (14")
3x tiger koi (10") - just bought last week
10x koi (6-8")
2x Jelawat (8")
2x Kelah (6")
2x Tenggalang (5")
3x Lampang Merah (4")
4x Bandaraya (8-10")

Let me share with you the current situation of my fish.

1st week of May I realise about 2-3 of my fish are flashing. I dont know they were itchy. I thought they want to show off. Then I spoke to some shop, he advised me to put dimlin. Before that sometimes I saw some small red tail floating in the pond, I think it is anchor worm. (I thought it was fish shit)

So I put dimlin with 15kg of rock salt on May 9th then 1 week later I flush out the 2/3 of the water.
I didnt feed that much during the week.

After the new water, I add the Pond Prep from Kordon which is water purifier, detoxin etc. My fish look very happy and swimming nicely.

Then I was outstation and back 10days later on 27th May.

I realise there was not much flashing on the fish. Then last Friday 1st June I bougth 3 tiger Koi.

As the shop told me the koi is well treated in their pond, and he put some green chemical( I dont know what) in the plastic bag when I carried home.

Then the problem starts after new tiger koi are in. Nearly all the fish are flashing including the new ones.

Then on Saturday 2nd June I put 15kg salt again (maybe 20kg- I was going crazy a bit) and Formalin for half of the bottle of 473ml then at night i finish them all.

On Sunday 3rd, I change the 1/3 of the water thinking of it will be better. But on Monday I still seeing 2-4 fish flashing. it may not all but still they are doing it.

I thought I want to do dimlin again. But let me ask the expert in this forum what their advise.

I check the ph is 8.5. no ammonia. I dont have nitrate test. My pond is around 3000litre.

Beside the flashing, I also realise the fish is under stress. They jump for food. They are more wild a bit. And the kelah is biting some of the koi lower back anal fin. I am not sure whether it is due to lack of feeding that they bite or they are stress because of the water or they become territorial and want to bite other.

I also see some part of the color of the koi get blur as well. My filter area is exposed as now is raining frequently, this may change my pond water (causing fish to jump). I am really guessing now.

So what do you think i should do on the flashing, jumping and this kelah problem?

Thanks
Rgds
Zack

Re: [zacky91] KOI Flashing and Multiple treatment [In reply to] Can't Post

This seems to be a trend that I've seen when new fish are added. Getting new fish and altering their enviroment from one place to another causes them to adjust to the new water conditions. Signs of jumping/flashing, red spots, red veins, etc, are signs of bacterial infection. Fungi also play a role in attacking your Kois. I think your pH is a bit too high; 7.0 to 7.5 is best. Thing is, high pH can attribute to the flashing/jumping. When my fish had these symptoms, I added PARACIDE GREEN to my tank. I turned off all my carbon filters (because carbon filters will inactivate the strength of the Paracide Green) and left the air pump on for circulation. After 4-6 hours of treatment I turn my filters back on to filter all of the medicine out and filter all of their poop out. Within 3 days, they got better and the were flashing less. I also added STRESS ZYME to speed up the biological filters and kill all of the Ammonia content. Within a week, they were fully healthy. Hope this helps.

Re: [Yinh] KOI Flashing and Multiple treatment [In reply to] Can't Post

Dear Yinh,

The water pH is 9.0 and the water tap into the pond is 9.0 as well. 2 days ago, we refill with new water for around 1' height. I'm not sure what to do to reduce the pH to 7 to 7.5.

The fish is flashing at night. Tonight I saw 2-3 doing that. During the day, no flashing that I can see. May be because water is warm during the day.

Any good suggestion on the ph? Should i just put ph down solution? tq

hi zacky, koi fashing as ying said is a sign of bacteria infection or parariste infection. Koi can subtain Ph from 7.5 to 9 with no ill effect. To combat bacteria, you just need to clean filter and change new water. To combat parasite, you need a scope. scope the fish and look under the scope what kind of parasite is that and then use medecine accordingly. This probably too advance for you and need more knowlege. However their is a shotgun remedy: one shot kill all parasite: First you use Malachite green and Formalyn sell in a combination under name Proform C. use according to the label on the bottle. that will take care most of parasite but Fluke. For fluke use Suppavern or Prazzi, and use according to the instruction. However, you need to post your question on koivet.com to made sure what i suggest and they suggest, and make your decision. Those medecine sell at the US and you do not have problem finding it. here is the website that you can check: sacramentokoi.com. Good luck and thanks for asking
I also notice that you have done all kind of medecine. Please be carefull when you do that, have to be correct dose in order to have result. the pond should have no plant when you add medecine. Organic things absorbe medecine, reduce them effect.

Re: [zacky91] KOI Flashing and Multiple treatment [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello, I would like to mention a thing about PH, This is important, and must be checked, although we should remember something, The difference between a reading of 7.5 to 8.0 is so slight that there is almost no difference! Remember these METERS are for scientific use, and therefore this is an important difference. On the other hand a difference in readings from 4.0 to 7.0 is very big! so if you have a reading between 7.0 and 8.0 it is virtualy the same, as koi are scavangers and as such, are not effected by a small difference like this. And I have seen and tested ponds that have PH that range from 6.5 to 9.0, and the koi seem fine! What one must remember also is that the bacteria in the bio filter have PH perimiters in which they can survive! And in fact the bacteria are almost more sensitive to Ph than the koi.
Anyway, just a little details
