Please Help My 1yr Old Babies!

I had 12 yearlings being raised in my 20 gallon long for the last year. I do water changes every other week. Has a filter rated for 30 gallons. Max size is 1.5". I have hand raised them all. Only started with about 40, others died early from deformaties, unknown, etc. Last one that died was about 3 months ago. I use the water from my main pond. Tank temperature is 68F. Last i checked, parameters are normal. Today i went into the garage (where tank is) and found two of my precious babies dead. I noticed that they had fin rot looking stuff. Then, in my panic for doing a water change and trying to figure something out, one dropped down to the bottom, puffing like crazy, unable to move. He is now gone. The larger ones seem to be fine. I leave for two weeks to oklahoma next friday for a huge event. What is going on? im planning on getting a larger tank, but right now i dont have the time to do it. What is your advice?? Please help! (They litterally are 1 year old today! June 1st, 2006 was their hatch day. i have the video of them hatching, first feeding, and pictures. I love my babies!) ************************************************* 8000 gallon pond smallish fish 1 platinum doitsu female, 2 kohaku, 1 Hikarimono, 1 Butterfly Bekko, 1 aka bekko, 1 aka matsuba, , 1 Karasugoi, 1 matsuba patterned, but kohaku, 9 hand raised babies (seperate pond) biguns: over 20" 1 ki matsuba1 sanke female, 1 showa male, 1 goshiki male, 1 kujaku female, 1 sheild tancho kohaku male, 1 yamatonishiki male, 1 kumonryu female, 1 platinum ogon male,
