Should I be worried? Can't Post

Hi,

My largest koi is developing black spots. She has had one large one next to her top fin for ages about 1cm by half a cm. I took her out to have a closer look and it just appears to be a change in skin pigment. More recently I have noticed a few more smaller black spots starting to develop near her tail end the size of a pinhead.

I have done some research and have read about shimis - a change in pigment due to chlorine and chemicals in tapwater. I always treat my water before I put it into the pond with Tetra watersafe. I can't seem to find any answers and don't know what to do to treat my fish. Please help.

even in mud pond water shimi still occurs. just have to live with it. In case you really want to get rid of it. redate the fish, use a rasor blade and scratch off the black pigment.
then use iodine to treat the wound. I did once, it's easier than you thought.

Thank you for your help! If it is just pigment change I am happy.

Cute! Definately keep her! I wouldn't get rid of one of my fish because of a few black spots. I just wanted to make sure they were nothing sinister!

From all of my reading I have found that it is normal but undesirable. There are my two largest Koi 29 and 27"
