koi stuck in bottom drain - what now? Can't Post

We had a dead koi lodged in the mouth of the bottom drain (no covers on the drains, yikes!). Having forgotten we left the pumps on, we tried to dislodge it so it'd float to the surface for easy removal. Unfortunately, it got sucked in instead.

The koi is now stuck somewhere inside the bottom drain, beyond our reach. It's definetely dead and so won't provide us the easy answer by swimming out the other side. Given that there are bends in the drain pipling, it might have gotten stuck at a turning - the pump's not strong enough to pull it through.

What is the best course of action now? Regular water changes and washing of the filter/bio-mats for the next few months until the fish decomposes and washes out? Are there any other measures to be taken to ensure the remaining fish don't suffer from the dirty water during this? :(

Is there any way to flush it out?

anyway, at least the rest of the koi are showing a healthy appetite today. except for one who looks depressed (it came with one of the two that went down the drain but washed out hte other side).

we've gotten the drains covered now too.

thanks ;)

good news is, the fish has washed out the other side today! wow.. much faster than i would have thought. sigh, poor fishy. it was our 'water test' fish, but we grew to like it alot. the other fish that got sucked away cost a lot more and was real pretty too >_<

COVER YOUR BOTTOM DRAINS - NOW!

hmmm.. i guess that would go for the skimmer too. but our skimmer pipe is only 1ft from the filter chambers so that's not as.. scarey...
