what kind of ailment is this? with picture Can't Post

Hello to all!
My koi is sick.
At first, there was a white spot then
it became red with the white spot at the center.
What kind of ailment is this?
And what is the remedy?
Thanks.

Dear atty_rane_m

What We are observing here is inflimation coursed by bacteria. It starts with a small abrasion coursed by rough handling /a preditor / scratching and so on. Basicaly the skin or dermus has been compromised and bacteria has gained a hold.

Bacteria are in all bodies of water but you can reduce the risks of infection to your fish by removing stones and plants and places where trapped waiste can build up as it's anarobic bacteria we need to get rid of by having good circulation and adaquate filteration, and airation.

Now for your fish you need to act reasonably fast as this can soon get out of control, first you need some anasetic or something to anaithotise the fish, ms222 clove oil or bicarbonate of soda are all good.

You will also need cotton swabs 2 clean bowls an air pump wisk 3 clean T towels some Pertassum Permagnigate, iodine or betadine, and some kind of wound seal such as koi wound seal or my personal favorite Orabase.

You might also need a broad range antibacterial treatment for your pond to prevent a reocurance.

So first fill one bowl with as much water just to cover the fish. Measure how much water is in the bowl in litres and make a note of it. Capture the infected koi in the other bowl with as little stress as possible.

Add to the first bowl whatever anasetic you have chosen to the dosage required. Like MS222 is 2 drops per litre mix well and add the fish. Dip one of the T towles in the bowl the fish has just come from and add the air pump and stone while the t towel is getting soaked, mix 1 teaspoon of Pottasium Permagnigate with 1 teaspoon tap water. when the fish looses equalibrium wrap it in the now wet t towel covering its eyes and gills but leaving the wound easy to get to. Dab gently with the PP solution and then gently do the same with iodine or betadine and then cover with wound seal. Makes sure the eyes and gills are protected at all times. Then put the fish in the airated water to recover when it is recovered enough replace into the pond..

Prevention is always better than a cure so Make sure your pond dosent harbour places for anarobic bacteria to bread try and minomise risks of physical injury and above all keep your water healthy as possible good luck dude

it's a simple ulcer. You nver need to sedate the fish for ulcer treatment, just catch the fish then apply iodine use denture powder to cover the wound. that's it.

Hello, I am sorry, but I disagree with you, When treating a koi or other type of fish, one should ALWAYS use anastetics! The reasons for this are the following,
Most fish when handled WILL fight, this causes more STREES for the fish, and makes the wound cleaning LESS than perfect.
Also, when the koi is sedated, this assures that the koi does not jump around thus POSSIBLE causing more damage and pain to the koi!
And apart from making the job of cleaning a wound easier for the koi owner, anastetics are used worldwide in ALL fish industries when transporting or when giving injections, and most of these industries have top scientist that study the effects of the use of anastetics on their PRODUCT!!! ( fish= $$$$$) so I would recomend the use of anastetics, and I would also recomend looking at ( www.koivet.com) this sight will also help you make the correct choice!

knocking a fish out in itself is not without risk. Also remember that ms222 is thought to be carcinogenic in humans. I would agree that if a fish is well handled and tame, it would tolerate having an ulcer debrided without chemical restraint.
