Feed Koi with Market Prawn.. Can't Post
All,

Just want to check is there anyone feed their Koi with Market Prawn.. would like to know any long term negative impact to the Koi?
I keep my Koi and my Aro in the same FGT.. so, start to feed them the same type of food (Market Prawn..).. My Koi simply love them..

Advise..

What do you mean by market prawn???Crazy

I buy mine from fish store and are cooked already(steamed) without the skinSmile

What I means is the fresh and raw prawn that you buy from the wet market.. those prawn that we cook to eat as well.. (tiger prawn).. What I did is wash then, de-shell and feed them to my Koi & Aro which are house together..

i tried feedin my kois with MP in FGT, they really love it. but the problem came quickly, the water became too stinko..so stopped the feed.

Gary,

Maybe your feeding them too much prawns. I feed mine as treats only, apart from prawns I feed them brown bread, grapes, oranges, live worms, tofu, etc. Remember all these are treats only. I still give them pellets to complete the balance dietWink

Check your filter, it may need cleaning/flashingSmile

Thks Jon, recalling the feed, I must admit tt the feed given isnt a treat, more like a half-meal, which must have caused the water problem.

Gary, I would think you may have overfeed your Koi. I feed my Koi only MP and my water is very clear and no foul smell.. I have stopped feeding them pallets since I have cloudy water issue then. I realized that my Koi grow better after I start to feed them with MP... they did not grow much on pallet feed..

Just make sure you cook them before feeding to your koi. Raw food like this is not goodWink you can get bad bacteria from live food so be carefulWink

I think this is important to mention! All these EXTRAS that koi eat are TREATS!!!!! We should remember that we are not looking for a new diet! But to expand their diet a little! The pellets have been designed to give a good diet!

Hi all

My 1st post I think. Registered while back but only now got opportunity to get my KOI. It is a local one I think coz bought from normal fish shop. Went for AA grade as he labelled it.

Some background, my KOI still in aquarium (3ft X 1.1/2ft X 1.1/2ft). Waiting for house to be ready and plan is to have my KOI pond.

My questions is, has anyone tried the live prawn normally bought from the fish shop? My KOI even ate my gappy :) but not the small size carp (normally people put in plants vase)

Btw, my KOI size is around 4-5 inches (total 5)

Hope to hear more.

Not sure if this is too late.

My koi eat any and every living thing in the small pond.... sucker fish, guppies, live prawn from fish shop(gone within hrs), meal worm, lava worm, bread, oats, carrot, etc...

My friend tried pig/ox organs like liver, heart, kidney, etc doing well too....
