Hand Feeding Problem Can't Post

Hi everyone I am new to this forum and to the koi world. I have been lurking around the posts for a couple weeks now. I am amaze by such beautiful animals. I have been involved for about a year now so I am fairly new. I just had the chance to make a pond at my house(400galFrownbut is good enough for now and to learn) I am very happy about that! But before I took care of my in laws pond they have a 2000 gal pond with 6 beautiful kois that I raised from being 3" to 2' now.Smile Any way at my new pond (400 gal 2 kois and 1 high fin shark) I trained all of my kois to hand feed. Now the problem is that I used to have 3 kois in this pond and I transferred 1 to the bigger pond because I don't want to overcrowd my pond, but when I did it I had some green water issues so I couldn't see the fish. Well my solution was to empty the pond a little so I can see them and also to change the water. But I guess the process was a little traumatic for the fish and now they haven't eat in two days because they are scare of me. How can I earn there trust back? Does this happens every time you catch your koi?

Thanks in advance!!!SmileSmileSmileSmile

koi will sometimes be a little shy after you net through a pond. It usually doesn't last more than a day or so. I would reccomend that you test your water to see what the water conditons are. Ph Ammonia Nitrite and nitrate would be good tests to do. Knowing that may atleast rule out any other stressful factors.

Try deshelled prawns and raw scallops. My koi love these and feed from my hand.

You'll find that it may take many weeks for them to be accustomed to you. Over months and years they'll be very friendly.

I know it sounds crazy, but call to them when you feed them and stand and be there with them for a whileSmile

Hello, There can be many technical reasons why they are afraid! But, the art of koi breeding or keeping has a VERY philosophical side to it. Why not try to learn what these guys ( koi ) can teach? Try again to build trust with them! From the philosophical view point, trust is something that does not come easy, yet is lost quite fast! Also remember , it is YOU who is trying to bend nature to your idea! I supoose that is why they say ( Patience is a virtue ) I would say GO WITH THE FLOW!
