"Hit and run" feeding behaviour Can't Post

Hi all,

Over the past 2 weeks after changing my filter media, my koi have become "hit and run" koi. Each time I feed them with Hikari saki pellets, they circle around just below the pellets, and then "boom", one by one, they grab a pellet and off they swim below again. This behaviour repeats itself during feeding time when I'm looking Frown. It seems that my koi have become extremely shy and they only eat when I'm not looking. Could it be because I've lost their trust by feeding them only 1x a day after I changed the filter media instead of 3x a day? How can I train them to be tame again and eat "normally" just like other koi I've seen? Please help. I aspire to be able to feed them from my hand :) Thanks! Smile

Hi Taiko,

Try introducing a chagoi or two to tame the pack... they work wonders Wink.

Cheers,
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Thanks. I've already got a chagoi. Should I get another one?

Hi Taiko ,

can I assume that the kois was friendly in the first place ? Changes in behaviour will happen if you change something in their environment eg adding a new aeration . Mine took more than 1 week to regain some old self after I added a new uniring.

Nice chagoi Koi38 . My friendliest koi is a 70cm Hi Utsuri , I have 3 chagois as well but slightly smaller at 65cm . I am not sure whether its a myth that chagois are the friendliest , I think it has got to do with size , the taiko (pun intended) . The biggest will be most friendly ? Crazy

Lauts,

They're not mine...........I can only wish. Chagoi is very hard to come by in Australia. I've been looking for the last 6yrs now and still no luck but I'm not stoppingTongue Some of my koi are tame coz of my Doitsu and SankeCool

Patience is the key in this very addictive hobbyWink

rgds,
Jon

Hi Lauts,

Thanks for the reply. My koi are back to their friendly self again. Like you said, looks like they needed time to get used to the new environment after I changed my filter media. Agreed, chagoi are very friendly. It's always the first to "greet" me when I approach the pond.

Cheers!
