Is rice ok for a young koi? Can't Post

Hello,
I have just bought my first koi, he is only about 5inch right now. I wanted to know is feeding cooked rice is ok? I ask because the person who sold it to me said it should be good. I wanted to make sure. Thanks.

amiricle....

Basically, koi can eat everything....EXCEPT....beans with shells, nuts, peas, corn, and greasy foods..
Rice is very healty for the fish, but remember, don't feed too much of it....rice is high in carbohydrates which will fatten the fish faster rather than building muscle....Tongue

With regards, Jarvis

Dear amiricle

They will eat it but i don't think it has much nutrional value.

Peas and beens are ok also plenty of rufage same for sweetcorn, as long as you don't feed them it every day.

Like worms and live food (from a safe place) good for the digestion but not all the vitams ect koi need.

A good diet is a varied diet for koi. But be carful far to easy to overfeed and polute the water.

zoul...

That is peas, beans and corn are ok when the hard shell coating is peeled off....

Koi are unable to digest these coatings and will develope digestive problems as a result...Unsure

And rice is high in carbohydrates....which is a form of food energy....but yeah like you said, Don't feed them like every day...

Dear s_clan

As long as you don't feed them as a staple part of the diet it should be ok.. Everything in moderation.

Alot of anglers use them to catch fish (bastards) should be banned i recon....

Still if you only feed them these kinda foods occasionaly i can't see it doing much harm..
