Mixing with food pallets- get creative!! Can't Post

hello, would like to start a healthy discussion on healthy food!!

i was suggested by kepong koi (specialises in momos) to mix pallets with yogurt and honey. they said to ferment the mixture for about 3-days first before mixing it with the pallets. seems to do wonders for the digestive process for our kois. but having tried it, i must warn u all to finish it off by end of the day once the pallets are mixed. if not really foul smell i tell u. kinda like puke also.

so it kinda got me thinking.. rather than spend hundreds on suplliments which are on the market which are readily available for mixing with pallets, why not do it ourselves right? well the yogurt mixture altogether only cost me rm1.20 for a pack of indian yogurt (something like lassi) and my breakfast honey. ive also read that honey in its purest form (the royal jelly ones) have anti-bacterial properties..

so the other day i mixed pallets with orange juice. soak it up well first.. then if u can spread it out on something (i used a tray) and let it sun dry for a bit. make sure to cover it if not flies just lay eggs on it. i like sun-drying it cuz if not the pallet gets too sticky. the kois dun mind really, but when soggy pallets get rushed by the kois, it leaves the water quite messy.

hope to get a healthy dose of replies !!

wonder how the fish would turn out if cat fish pellet were use? The Cargil cat fish pellet is much more cheaper compare to the japanese/taiwanese product (RM 0.5 per kg vs RM 15 per kilo minimum).

How do you find the fish after feeding the yogurt/honey mix?? what is the ratio of yogurt to honey?

catfish food contains higher protein content (>50%) which makes some people considering feeding them to kois. however kois can only absorb around 30-40%. most good pallets take this into account as pot-belly could a problem. whereas potbelly catfishes are just yummy! but dang 50 sens a kg!!!! yeah might even try it man!! where can u get that cheap?? maybe once in a while is ok (when the koi budget exceeds!!)

i suppose kois are just spolit lots. much more consideration must be taken into account when designing their food. their growth must not only be in mass, but also shape, colour, other health supplements (vitamins and minerals - which some people mix pallet with that koi clay mont something clay) and some food pallets such as medicarp from JPD have medical supplements (different from medikoi which have antibacteria). i guess the cheap way of going at this (thus this thread) is adding additional homemade supplements so itll be cheaper than the expensive imported ones added with that stuff.

i feed roughly 6 handful of pallets a day. when i mixed them with the yogurt i used one packet bought from my neighbourhood indian grocery (not that much, half a cup) and one tablespoon of honey.

for orange juice i just pour in until im sure all pallets for the day is soaked.
