My koi don't eat Lettuce? Can't Post
I heard from more than one source that koi can be fed lettuce. I have hand fet it to them, but they just spit it out. Can somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hi, they are not used to it, that's all. Give them some time. Lettuce is great for koi. Smile

Hi dttk,
How big should the lettuce leaves be? Does it need to be cut in small pieces or will they nibble on the whole leaf and eat it?

Chopped up into thin slices for smaller koi and whole piece intact for larger koi. In fact the koi will chase each other just to get a bite of the lettuce. Great exercise for them Smile

Have you tried oranges also? Mine wouldn't eat it until I cut it up a bit. Here is a picture of how I serve it to them. Cut the orange in half and peel a bit of the peel. Mine don't have the taste for lettuce either.

...mmm...yummy! Looks really juicy Wink. Bet you've eaten it by yourself? CrazyLaugh. I used to feed lettuce (2 varieties) this way. Nowadays I don't as I noticed that the koi have been nibbling at the "money plant" that overhangs from the edge of the pond. That's enough fibre for them I guess. Thanks for sharing the picture Smile.

My kois dont eat lettuce too but do to study I found out they do. If they spit it back out just leave the lettuce in the pond or tank and they will have to come eat it because there is nothing else to eat.I saw them spitting it out but later when they find out no other food is comming they gulp it up trust me they will.

i will try that eastside!!

i tried to feed them with lettuce once, but they did spit it out, and i think i took most of them out.

Thanks eastside, that was very helpful. I left the lettuce in there and they did eat it.
