Wheatgerm and color pallets combination? Can't Post
Hi,

I have been recommended to mix the food pallets (wheatgerm and color) during feeding. Is this recommended?

Please advise.

hi there..

for me, i wud feed colour in the evening and wheatgern in the morning and lunch.. reason is i make sure all koi eat wheatgerms or colour more balance. if u simple mix the 2 food in a serving, u never know 1 koi will eat more colour food and the others eat more wheatgerms.. logic?

Hi Kit. Yes, it is very logical and it was how I used to feed them previously. In this case, i will revert the feeding. What about the recommended ratio combination?

In your case, 2:1 for Wheatgerm to Colour? ie to promote more growth? Also, is there any reason for feeding colour in the evening?

hi there..

ok for me.. i feed wheatgerm for a week or 2, then if colour food is needed i usually feed them for 1 wk only.. but i feed momotaro food mix now, which is a balance of both.. soo i have no worry abt this cycle anymore..

wheatgerms 2:1?? dats hikari ways of feeding?? i m not sure myself.. sorry not much to comment hereSlyLaugh

also there no specific reason why wheatgerm in the am or pm.. i wud feed more wheatgerms coz its good for digestion for kois.. too much colour can hurt the liver of kois, dats wat i heard from some cifus..

Hi Kit,

Do you see a significant improvement for your koi by feeding them with momotaro food mix compared to Hikari?

hi epal..

i can only see better skin quality, better health and better water quality after using momotaro food. of course i also use the combination of bacteria hse and clay to help improve all aboves..

u sure u newbie?? well even if u not and since u ask, i will try to answer u..

theres lots of type of clay.. wat i m using is onitaiji, refresh and biohealthy super delux..

onitaiji is easy to use, just sprikle to ur pond, they will settle down and improve water quality, sumtime i mix them into my paste food, ...

refresh powder need to b mix in bucket of water, then pour into pond water.. same effect, improve skin quality..

bio healthy same usage as onitaiji, also can b mixed in bucket of water.. better version of clay as it contain psb, photosythetic bactria bla bla.... good to use aftr u wash ur filter media or flash ur chambers..

back to wheatgerms.. hows ur combination of wheatgerms/colour? wat brand u using? any effect on kois yet?

Hi Koi@kit ,

I have just stopped the mixing of wheatgerm and color pallets. Further, I reduce the amount of color ones but increase the wheatgerm pallets.

Reason, I noticed my kohaku lost some of its white shine....a bit yellowish....Frown Maybe it ate too much color pallets! What do you think?

I am currently using Misaki. I have just read that some forumers had also used this before and said it is not very good. I noticed tht it is a bit oily... So, I might change to another brand the next round.

Hi Epal,

If you don't mind the cost, I would reccomend Hikari Excel. Personally, this is the best colour food I've tried. I've no problem with the shiroji with Excel... in fact there's a layer of lustre on the skin of the koi which I've not seen with other colour food.

I've also heard Sakai colour food is also one of the best but expensive.

Hi epal...

yellowish head can b due to many things.. i once have a yellow head tosai sanke which turn to very snow white sanke after sansai... well dats the bloodline problem..

as in ur case, it cud be due to water or colour food.. i tried excel long time ago as recommended by Dennis.. yes, one of the best.. yet again, during the asia show in singapore, i managed to some FD colour (from max farm)for testing,.. the result... the best of all.. and again.. very very very expensive hahahahhah..
