Winter Foods? Can't Post

Hello Bros,

I was wondering what do you feed to your koi in the winter periods? Its beginning to get into winter now in Australia and the water is around 15-17*C. Just wondering what I can feed them.

At 15*C im feeding them Hikari Wheatgerm and Nutrafin Max Goldfish Flakes. Just wondering if I should stop with the staple and the spirulina?

Regards Kindly
Mango

Sai lo Mango,

I still feed mine but only once every 2 or 3 days. It takes a while for our koi to digest the food due to our weather. Like you said temp is falling down fastShockedSmile.

Well personaly i grow my own dafnia (water fleas). i figure if the don't eat them they won't polute the water..

weatgerm pellets are fine also but make sure if the fish don't eat them remove it after a few minutes.. never feed em when the water is below 6 degrees C.

Sai Lo Mango,

Mate if you have algae on the walls/floor they will still munch on them if not I will still feed them a little coz of our climate changing. But once the temp drop to less than 15deg C stop feeding or maybe once a week just to perform a visual checkWink

rgds,
Jon

Sai Lo Mango...

I start and stop feeding in between seasons at 10*C....Both me and my neighbour figured that the algaed walls will do fine for the koi through the winter and early spring.....

Once I see the koi active and licking the algae....I know it's the right temp to feed wheatgerms....

BTW: I use Laguna wheatgerm...Tongue I wander what they taste likeCrazy.......aarr....let seee....oh, not bad....like cereal!!!SmileLaugh

With regards, Jarvis
