yes, colour enhancement koi food does work. but just be on the moderate side of things as too much may cause the white of the skin to turn pink in some cases.

Yep, I've seen a case wherein a Koi develops secondary Hi on the white skin and seems like they will not go away. Sometimes too strong color enhancement may not be a good thing, even on expensive Koi. What you may want to do is to feed Koi with colour enhancements to enhance the red slowly.

Cheers

Hi Henry,

So sorry for late reply. I am now using Vitakraft Koi Color for slow but lasting Hi. Momotaro Color food produces very rapid change of orange to red. Some Koi can't too much of this one - they produces secondary Hi and spoils the Koi. Hikari Spirulina is somewhere in between the 2 in terms of speed of color change.

I wouldn't dare try some unbranded color food for Koi.

Cheers

hey TanSL

Thanks for the reply. BTW Sera koi foods are more expensive than hikari products thats why i selected these products for the reason they are more expensive than hikari so it must be good.

Hi everybody,

Not sure if this thread is still being watched, but I'll still pose a question here : does fish pellets, regardless of Hikari or any other brand have an expiry date ?

I can't seem to find this date on the outside packing. Where else to find or do we follow a standard ruling, ie 6 months, or 1 year, etc ?

I have a few packets of Hikari products with me and I wouldn't want them to go bad before I could feed them to my koi's. Thanks,............

Occasionally I feed my kois with fresh market prawns. The red variety prawns contain red pigment which apparently helps in color enhancement.
My kois love these prawns as a occasional treat.

Hello, I use the SERA koi pellets, they are the only thing I can find. They seem fine! The price is about $10 dollars for 340grams!

Re: [Roxanne] color enhancement does it really make a difference? [In reply to] Can't Post

hi Roxy,

Usually the expiry date for most koi food is 2 years after manufacturing date. But once the package is opened, it is best used in the first 4 months. Probably that's how long it stays fresh. But any longer than that should still be okay, depending. If u purchase big bag of food, fill them into a small tupperware so that the big bag wont be opened too often.

I kept a koi food for 1 year recently and it had white stuffs growing on it..

Anyway, hope that help.

hmm.. I did not realize this thread is alive after 3 years...
