don't know if koi will even eat. Can't Post

Sounds dumb. But i just got my first koi ever and i am worried. I got these two guys from a store. they were in a 10 gal. tank.
Now they are in a 2,500 pond. I bought the floating pellets made for koi, but the koi are always on the bottom.
Thanks.

Hi alown,

If they've been in the pond for a few days or week, they still familiarizing them selves in their new envinronment.Smile If they don't eat their fod take it out, it do more harm than good leaving uneaten food in the pond. Try feeding every other day until they get use to their new homeSmile Good luck.

rgds,
Jon

Hi Alown,

Just give them time. You need lots of patience when it comes to koi keepingSmile Having cloudy water means too much food or fish waste from my experience. Feed them less. If they consume their food with 5min to 10mins max it ok, beyond that is a bit too muchWink

Post some questions under "Pond water quality" regarding your water clarity. As a newbie like myself, ask lots of questions even silly ones. At the end of the day it will work both waysCool

Jon is right, Cloudy water due to overfeeding. It is understandable that everyone wants their Koi to grow big and fast thinking that the more you feed the bigger it will grow.

I fast my Koi whenever I discover cloudy water. Resume feeding only when clear water takes place.

Tan Lee King - Feed & Feed & Feed & F........ Wow! Will it turn out to be Jumbo? Ha Ha.

Hi Alown,

You have been given good information by other forumers. There are many reasons why koi do not feed, but there are 2 main reasons, fear or water quality issues. Fear could be due to new environment or predator issues. In your case, just give it time. At one stage, they will be overcome by hunger and come to the surface. They can easily go a few weeks without food, so nothing to worry about. As to water issue, you just have to monitor. If they are not eating, just abstain from feeding or at most a few pellets a day. Water quality will improve as a result. Just hang on there and resist the temptation to throw more food.

Cheers..

I did the ladder. I bought more fishies. I didn't do it just because they wouldn'e eat. I did it because i wanted more fish.
And I wanted to see my fish. 2,500 gal pond + 4 tiny fish = hard to find fish.
And when i feed them the food, the new fish swim to the surface and eat and the other fish followed.
Now i need to get better koi food. Mine is a too big for the little koi to eat.
Thanks for your help.

buy a bigger koi like 10+, it will surely see the food, and since most bigger koi are the leaders, he or she will lead the little buggers to the koi food on top.

try buying a big chagoi
