eating pellets Can't Post

Hi there..

I currently have 4 koi's from 4-7 inches and about 8 'mutt' fish varying from 2-9 inches in length
I have tried to 2 types of floating pellets and I have noticed that the fish try to eat it but spit it out immediately when I first feed them. After a while (20 miniutes) the fish eventually eat all the floating pellets. I am thinking that the pellets maybe to hard at first and when the water softens them up for a bit. The fish can then chew it down.

I also feed the fish some flakes which they have no problems eating.

Does anyone else out have this problem?

Any suggests would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Re: [Shawna] eating pellets [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Shawna,

Yes I have had this problem before but if they eat them all I wouldn't worry. Some foods like Kusuri suggest soaking the pellets for a couple of minutes in a dish but if you leave them too long they disintigrate. Koi often spit out new food until they get used to it, but if they really are struggling then maybe you could try smaller pellets. A few brands make a new type of softer pellet and if you have the time you could even make your own from the paste foods available.
Hope this helps.
