eating plants Can't Post

Are my koi hungry they are eating my plants. I feed them what I thought was heavy once a day and on the weekend twice a day. 15 inch 12 inch 8 inch and abou 6 6inch fish and about 75 small 3 to 4 inch koi I feed about 1 cup on food in the morning.

It could be they are hungry It could be thats the only thing they want to do at the time. But in the end it mostly its that its a natrual thing they do even if the plant is good for them or not they will eat most of the plants in your pond and I heard somewhere that if your not into plants or gardening a true koi ponds must never have live plants in there,always have areation and have a filter.

Yes, My 180 gallon pond is full of fingerlings and fancy goldfish I feed 4 times a day. But they still tear some of my plants to shreds.

We've noticed that our Koi actually will tear the roots off our Water Hyacinths when they are trying to get to the food pellets that are stuck between the branches/leaves. Makes such a mess cleaning the filter but c'est la vie. We have slowly given our Koi lettuce and oranges per the suggestions from this list but still does not stop them from tearing at the roots of the Hyacinths. Just my little ditty on what my Koi do. Laugh
Located on the Westcoast of Canada. We currently breeder Show Quality Bettas, Portuguese Water Dogs and Bengal Cats.
