Mainly it is the vitamin C, just like for people. I am sure there are lots of other vitamins and minerals that also give the koi a bit of a boost! Sly

Yup, but in fish it is good for their bones and tissue. It also helps their immune system and can aid digestion as well. Especially if you are feeding it in the form of a fruit as fruit is digested relatively easily.

Kiwi is packed with vitamin C, you can see if your koi like it! *laughs* Wink

Heya, I noticed my koi were uninterested in oranges but then I realized they simply couldnt get a bite out of it. So here is how I prepare it (image attached). I simply cut the orange in half and then cut about 3'4 of an inch of the edge of the orange halves. The one on the left has been prepared. (By the way the orange looked so good I ate it and had to cut up another one for them.) Lol. Sly

I usually feed an orange half at a time, i stick a rope thru the middle and tie it to a plant, after they eat the inside out i just pull on the rope take the peel off. (as rope im talking about the type of fish line that you stick thru a fish's gills when you go fishing dont worry i dont use it on them Crazy.)

Hi

1st time i have posted so please be gentle.Laugh

I've been keeping koi for only a few months and have been feeding them orange as a treat for a while. They love it. I cut mine into quarters and put them in the pond, some of them chase them and the others like you to hold it still for them. I found this helped with taming them. There is a couple of lazy koi that can't be bothered to strip the orange off the peel so for these I throw in a couple of chunks.

Friends of mine can't believe I feed oranges to my koi.

Hi all

Thanks for making me welcome!

At the weekend I tried my koi with a childs dummy dipped in honey.

One just spat it out but one of my really bigs ones KiKu (sorry all mine have names as I can't say the Japanese ones) swam off with it sucking it for a while then she dropped it on the bottom but she went back to it and picked it up and started sucking it again.

Good party trick for my next BBQ!

Don't feed them for a day or two and they will start nibbling at everything to see if it tastes good. Then they will try the fruit and find out whether they do like it or they don't. Wink

Ha Ha, I can't get the image of a koi swimming around with a dummy in its mouth out of my head! That is priceless, and a great way to feed them honey. Mine just kinda slopped in the water and made a mess! I will have to try that sometime...if I can stop laughing! Laugh

Just leave it in there long enough and they will eat almost anything when they are hungry.

And after a couple of times, they will learn to like the taste.
