sinking??? Can't Post

i just introduced two new koi to a pre-established tank already containing two plecos and very small tetras (these fish were in the tank before i ressurected it a couple weeks ago from the cess pool it was up untill then.

so i floated the koi and then introduced them and they got settled after exploring for a while and i went to feed them. I had bought floating pellets but they wouldnt eat them. i scooped them all out of the tank and tried some regular tropical fish flakes and the koi ate them as they sank.

what should i do?

do i but sinking pellets? where can i find them?

can i slowly introduce the koi to floating ones?

help would be highly appreciated

Dear thebigsleep289

In the wild and natural envoiroment carp are bottom feeding fish.

They will start eating food from the serface, it's kinda like a pavlovian responce becouse they are pretty greedy animals.

If you have plants in your tank be prepared to keep replanting them as koi will uproot them.

Also your keeping them in a tropical tank so they will grow big quickley and will proberley eat your tetras, as soon as they will fit in the mouth.

Koi are also messy eaters, so you will have to get used to doing 20% water changes every week.

You would be better off with a pond becouse koi are made for looking down at while tetras don't look so good from the top.

thanks,

i fed the pellets along with sinking flakes and they figured it out. eating the tetras isnt a problem but someday i would like to have a pond. I thought the growth of koi depended alot on space as well as food. Wont they only get to a certain size in my tank?
