I know they love prawns and they are low fat! My koi really love grubs I find in the garden as well. Experiment with fruit and vegetables, you will be surprised what they like.

Take care,
Wolfie

Prawns are essentially a kind of shrimp.

once you peel them and boil them they look like this:

but before that they run around like this

of course they come a lot smaller as well.

First of all, I don't think I would go anywhere near that thing.
Second, why do we need to boil them? I mean how do koi eat them in the wild?

And finally, my koi deserve it, so where can I get some of that stuff?

Well, it'd help if i knew where you lived...

They are alright really!

I dont know if you are supposed to boil them or not, but you have to peel them or your koi will either get some shell stuck in its stomach or something, and i would imagine people would boil them because being from the sea and all, they could be dirty and boiling will kill any germs on them

By NYC i presume you mean New York City?

If so, go into town and ask for some prawns!

If you mean somewhere in singapore or east of england i have no clue. Well, go to a fish shop (a food-fish shop, for fish you eat for food) and ask for some.

Thanks Kortana, and yes I meant New York City.

I didn't know that I could get it at a fish place. I'll see if they have some, and let you know if the guys like it. Wink

Yeah, a fish mongerer, thats the place. Good luck, I hope your kois like it, because im thinking about getting some prawns for my koi.

But, they are both just 13cm long (lickle babies!) so I might have to chop the prawns up, we'll see

Well don't worry about that Kortana, my Koi are also kinda small. The biggest one is about 20 cm long.

The rest are all about 8-15 cm long. So I'll be doing some chopping up too. Tongue

Maybe, but as america is the biggest economical doo da in the world, and as england also calls them prawns and england owned 1/4 of the world at one point, i think its fair to call them that!

Hi

I treat my koi with dried shrimps (the small ones) and they loved it. We also have a friend who feed raw shrimps (the small ones of course).

i have to agree with you on that one! i am in the process of digging my new extended pond!! Sly and have found many earthworms, and i found out that my koi love them! so now they just sit there at the edge of the pond watching me dig, waiting until i come across another earthworm!!! Laugh

You guys are such a riot! *laughs*

In America they do call them shrimp
In Britian they are prawns

I just can't get over KeyLink57's reaction to seeing a picture of a prawn. *laughs* I guess they do look kinda scary. Sly Well done to Kortana for the detailed information and pictures!

If your koi feed from hand easily you can even try giving them a spoonful of honey. Although I would think this is quite messy. *laughs*

Take care everyone!

always,
Wolfie
