what food for my 3"-4" koi Can't Post
hi im new to koi keeping, i have some 3-4 inch koi coming on tuesday but dont know what food to get for them or what size?? any help would be good nathan

I use Japanese koi pellets, the mini sizr for smaller fish

Hi nathan,

Welcome to the forum. It is best to give your young kois pellets with at least a 36% of protein for their growth. Serve them the colour enhancer pellet sparingly for the time being. You can also try some other food e.g brown bread, banana, alfalfa, watermelon, lettuce. They are good for kois.

I give my kois those food once a week but for daily diet I give them Misaki pellets for their growth.Go and get the pellets from your dealers.

hi, right ive got some food here and this is what it says

. 31% protein
. vit a 5,000 iu/kg
. vit d3 500 iu/kg
. vit e 100 mg/kg
. 5% sheatgerm
. 4.5% fibre
. 9.5% ash
. 6% oil


does this sound ok?? the people said this is the best one for what i want!! there was loads in stock i told them the size of my koi and they said this one AND IT WASNT ONE OF THE MOST EXPENCIVE ONES nathan

Hi Nathan,

I would suggest wheatgerm based food for cooler climates like the UK. Kois cannot absorb high protein food when water temperature is below 16 degree C. Please see link for some reference.
