I like standing in my pond and for some reason the koi like it to. I dont know what it is but they are not scared at all when you are in the water with them they will come up to your legs and nibble on them. They will follow you around the whole time you are in the pond and I think the reason is because you stir up food for them and they are eating it off of you.Wink

There is no problem walking into the pond with the kois, however wash your feet first and be very carefull, the algea at the bottom of the pond is very slippery!!!

Yes I have but only because my retrofit tetra bottom drain came loose. The pond was established then and very slippery. I always keep a 10 ft ladder near the pond in case I need to go in again quickly just in case.

Yes -- I deliberately created a small area of "stepping stones" so that I could. The fish seemed to like it.

Done it many times. My old pond was like a spa with the first level about a foot deep. I sit there for 10 mins then straight to the poolWink

Of course! The fish don't mind, and once they figure out that you do not pose a threat they will swim around your feet. Sometimes my wife swears the babies nibble at her toes. (I think it is just the algae her feet break loose they are munching on myself). The larger ones mostly keep their distance, but sometimes will swim by and brush against your legs. After all, the biggest carp you've ever had couldn't take a bite out of you if his life depended on it! Now if you had a gar pond... that would be a different story..........

Love to let your koi chew on you. Don't forget to wear a thick pant to protect your brother in case your koi love him and open its big mounth to........ ?

Hehehe... Just for the fun of it.

I'll be sure to keep my pants on...Angelic
I must confess one thing though. My cat was taking a drink from the ponds edge on night and our largest male (16" Orenji Matsuba) thought his tongue was a bug on top of the water, so he came up for a bite and wound up french kissing our cat. The cat has never been the same.Crazy

The cat still won't drink from the pondUnsure. The other night he went to the waters edge while I was feeding, saw the fish, and slowly crept up the stream bed until he found a nice "safe" place to quench his thirst.Sly At least I don't have to worry about him messing with my Koi!Wink

Some excellent tales being told. The only time I've been in was when I'd just put my stock in and was postioning plants, the fish seemed rather happy too :)

The cat has been topped by our new Leather Doitsu Chagoi... OK, he's really my step-daughters miniature dachshund, but he now thinks he's a fish.Tongue He's decided that koi food is a taste sensation so the other night when we were feeding he jumped in the pond to get his fair share.Shocked Swam right through the middle of the pool paddling and chomping his way along just like he belonged.Crazy Now we can't let him in the back yard without a chaperone armed with a net.Mad

LOL.......................A funny idea, but as someone here as already mentioned, I'd be scared to swim with my koi. It's not that the fish are scary, but it just seems strange and all.Laugh
