I would actually go for: 1.Water Qualitiy, 2.Koi Health,3. Pond size

But they all kinda run together. Sly

Hey, that's a good one! I was assuming that a big filter = good water quality = healthy koi Wink. My priorities are 1.filter size 2.pond size 3.koi quality Smile

Hi, wow! You're really very specific, aren't you? Wink Actually the reason I created this poll was to find out if koi-keepers ever wondered how important a proper sized filter is. Smile In my opinion, whether we keep very good quality koi or just standard ones, the water quality is the most important factor. Expensive koi will deteriorate in bad water. Cheaper koi may improve in quality in good water. I have known many keepers who have regretted having undersized filters. Smile

Hi dttk - i am a fan of your koi web site. Now i think size of filter may not exactly equate to a good filter. i have a 15 ton pond but the filter size is only about 13% - although most "experts" recommend 30%. I find its more important to have an effective filter with at least 2 settlements chambers - the first chamber been maintained most often, say once a month. I got by with such a small filter because the first settlement chamber took out over 90% of the waste, most hobbist made the mistake of using brushes and rings which does not stop small bits of debris from going to the other chambers - also you got to really give the settlement chambers a throrough wash, not just flush it - and finally you got to seed the pond again after each wash with bacteria powder.

Hi, glad to know that your system works for you. Smile After a few years into the hobby, I realised that there's no single good way for keeping koi. The most important thing is if the water parameters are great, then you know that what you've been doing is correct. Sly Thanks for sharing your valuable experience with us Smile.
