Definatly lost alot of koi.. over 100 at a price of $6.00 to $18.00 each. Got my mom to thank for that... but I still love her, I just keep my koi well away from her care! Winter came around, my pond was next to the house. The roof had alot of ice on it. My mother and father bought this "calcium carbonate" to melt the ice off the shingles. Pond next to house + Poison water on roof...
To add insult to injury, the survivors got moved inside, 30 somthing left out of the nearly 100 in my pond... close obsevation, medication, detoxifaction... one by one they dropped like flies over the next two weeks, 1 to 2 a day. All of these koi were trained to hand feed and responded only to me when I went to the pond, I could pet them... needless to say, I was close to them. I think that was the worst 2 weeks of my life. The poisoning got all of them except a very few which I was lucky enough to have brought in for the winter and had in another seperate tank. Well enough of the sob story, chalk me up for the "over 100" line.
