Hi Jaylene, For a koi to reach jumbo status, it'll need the genes, good food and ideal environment (pond of considerable depth and size). Even with these prerequisites, it usually takes kois of such calibre at least 5 years of age to reach 32" (or 80cm) and you would have done a very good job if you can get them to reach jumbo size. Gosankes rarely hit the 36" (90cm) mark, and it is not easy to find one even in reputable breeders' parent stocks. You'll have better chances of reaching 36" with kois like chagoi, benigoi, ogon, kigoi etc. Getting kois to reach 70cm is relatively easy (I've had 3 tosais from 20cm+ which hit the 70cm mark in 2-2.5 years). However, it is from 70cm that their growth is painstakingly slow (probably due to the size of my pond... only 12 tons including filter ). Cheers, Dennis
