Just like the rest of the non-native Australian population we were imported at one time or the other.

The first imports would have occurred decades ago before legislation prevented the current crop of koi importations.

Check this site out if you intend to import into Australia.

The first ones wasnt imported...they were prob smuggled but back then there wasnt any Xray machines in customs. So we did get some Japanese koi back then, but now if we want new species such as Ochiba or Kin Kikikoyu or even Ginga...we got to create them ourselves. But its good that we got people creating new varieties here which are still new in jap as well.

Koi breeders are everywhere in Australia. We got farms and breeders who breed from home. I know we can export but cannot import.
