Many people I know in Sydney use Oyster Shells in their filters to keep the pH at a constant. If you can, come to the AKA auction on the 5th of Feb @ 9:45am and have a chat to the people there. Im part of the AKA club too, so you will see me there too.

Hi Pete,

We need more info regrading your pond. We know you have 30 koi but,
*what size is your pond???
*how many times do you feed them???
*sizes and types of filtration you use???
*gravity feed system or pump fed???

Like Mango said, you can use oyster shells or sea shells as ph buffer. Place 5kg of these shells in you last chamber or where the water retuns to pondSmile

Also is you want a first hand info, there's a WA Koi ClubWink

Re: [Koi38] ph [In reply to] Can't Post

hi to mango & jon
thankyou for your replies to our question we are very new to this idea of a forum so here goes with the answers to your Qs ..the pond has a capacity of 2300 liters running through a 7500 lph submerged pump 2/3 supply runs to a clear pond 6000 uvc presure bio filter ,water then runs to a plant filter of aprox 1m x 250mm in turn to small spill pond with more plants ..yes we are guilty of to much feeding ,,but it is great to watch them feed .now for the last 2 weeks we are only twice a day .we are planning to extend pond to double capacity in a few months ,,water not koi i think that covers all of it ,have just tested ph still 8.2 after 1/3 water change .
thanks pete
ps,,,,amonia,,nitrate ,nitrite are all good ..we also run salt at around 2.0

Try to add oyster shells or sea shells first. Your ph is not that critically high as long as the rest of water params are acceptable or not too high to be toxicWink Your pond is like my old pond over stock pond. Your filter is okay for goldfish but for koi when they grow and they will, your filter will suffer a lot and so as your koi, sorry to sayAngelic So you might want to increase your filter too. Speak to Allan of KSAWA, nice bloke to get a first hand infoSmile
