1 METER KOI N 3 METER POND Can't Post

Hi all..

i was talking with paul today n got another tips from the master.. just want to share dis n wud like to have some feed back n commen from u all..Wink

"in order to grow a 1m koi, pond deep must be 3m deep"... wat do u think?Shocked

personally i think it is true, 1 ft of koi need 3ft of space to swim.. dis is wat i heard long time ago.. but 3 time the deep. my 1st time.. sound logic, Smile

for instant my pond, 6 ft deep... to grow a koi to 60cm (2ft) is very easy.. from 60cm to 70cm take a longer time..
a tosai can grow 4cm a mth, but when touches the 60 to 65cm line.. the growth rate slowed down to 2cm a mth.. cud it be really due to pond dept?Crazy

How abt ur koi? ur pond dept?Smile

Hi Kit,

Doesn't the bloodline contribute on the growth as well as the pond size. Like you guys can grow a tosai 4cm a month to 60cm to 70cm in a year. Unlucky usUnsure we only have locally bred koi but better than nothing

If I can grow my koi to 70cmShocked, I'll buy you a plain ticket to Sydney.......................onewayLaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

BTW, my pond is 1.8mtrs deep 10Tons.

rgds,
Jon

master cifu koi38..

i agree with u.. bloodline do contribute on the growth of koi, as well as pond size.
my 'lipstick' grown from 40cm (31st january 2005) to almost 70cm (31st january 2006) under my care..Wink.. she not even 2 yrs old.. she was born 6th jun 2004.. hope she can touch 74cm line on her 2nd birthday..Sly

btw my pond is also 1.8m but contain 20 ton water.. pond size is 8ft x 16ft..
my master cifu paul have pond of 5ft deep.. he got 80+cm maruyama showa in it. but his pond is at least 40ft long with abt 60ton water.. master cifu koimann also used to have a massive 80+cm koi.. his pond deep abt 4ft to 5 ft. if not mistaken, his water less than 30 ton..

if 4ft to 5ft pond dept can grow koi to 80+cm, its must be my cifu is very skillful in bring up the koi (bloodline of koi is good, good koi food, good water quality)..

Providing good water quality, right diet for your koi plus the bloodline definately equals a very Jumbo KoiCoolCoolCool

All I need now is the bloodlinePirateLaughSly

Re: [koi@kit] 1 METER KOI N 3 METER POND [In reply to] Can't Post

Kitmatoro,

From what i know, the following factors: does contribute to the length and growth of Koi...

1. Bloodline/parents size
2. Adequate and good water parameters (add some minerals like special koi clay!!)
3. Food
4. turnover rate of water in the pond
5. Pond size (length & depth)
6. Koi population

I think we need all the above to get a Koi growing to its maximum size, and plus not to forget the ultimatum factor, the keeper's skills on looking after this living jewel!!!Smile

We we look at depth, I think this will put alot of pressure on the Koi shoulder thus good for grith!!Wink correct me if i'm wrong but just voicing what I know!!Cool
