Re: [koi@kit] ANTI CHLORINE (SODIUM THIOSULPHATE) [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi there Kit,

I got this koi keeping book called "Nishikigoi Jewels of the Orient" which states that it is safe to change up to a maximum capacity of 30% without the aid of anti chlorine. This said, I put the theory to the test and the water tested positive for harmful chlorine level using Sera chlorine tester. I guess it all depends on the continent and country as they have different chlorine levels in the mains. Right now, I am flowing water straight from the tap at a slow rate into my pond without using anti-chlorine solution and have tested the water for chlorine for 8 days now, results came out negative for chlorine. I suppose at that rate the chlorine dilutes in the water and is unable to amount to a harmful level. Im going to test for another 10 days and check the result, hopefully it will work out fine then I wouldn't have to buy more AquaPlus solution.

PS* Any ideas on how to remove chlorine without using anti-chlorine solution and carbon filter will be much appreciated*

Hi Kit,

I don't use dechlorinator if I do up 20% water change. I use water sprinkler type fitting to my hose at low pressure when I add water to my pond. I just set the tap timer coz it does take a while specially if you're adding 20% waterCrazySmile to date no chlorine is detected. The only time I used dechlorinator was when I filled up my new pondWink

Jon

Kit,
slow flow rate from tap and high oxygen content from air pump would have evaporate chlorine away.Laugh Yours no problem lah, so much oxygen!

Cifu Kit...

Well, about the dechlorinizer....both me and my neighbour agree that it is not really neccessary.....

She just pours in the tap water.....and I being a bit more careful.....fills buckets the day before and then pump them in the next day....

less chemicals is better she says...

Kit,
are you using the big blue tank to keep the aging water? If no, might be good to use it as a temporary storage tank for water prior to fill into your pond, then aerate it everyday. I could be thinking unnecessarily. Crazy I dont trust the tap water at all. Imagine you fill the blue bucket with tapwater and all you can see is brown water, is that good water??Pirate yuck!Crazy

take care yah! maybe give you a visit some time. Happy Onn Koi Koi!

Sunshine.

i mean stuff get stuck in the carbon.. carbon got tiny pore.. when to change depends on how much waste is on them.. i heard they can be re activate.. by washing them and heat them at certain temp.. but i m not sure.. better change a new one to be on the save side..

Re: [s_clan] ANTI CHLORINE (SODIUM THIOSULPHATE) [In reply to] Can't Post

cifu s_clan..

i read from some articles abt carbon, saying dat u actually re-activate the carbon.. 1st u need to wash then to remove dust n dirth.. then put them to dry in an oven (not sure the temperature, may be 100'c).. then carbon can be reused.. but u not confident better change to a new sets of carbon..

kit

Dear koi@kit

Alot depends on what you local water authority puts in the water supply. I contact mine every 2 months just to check what nasties they stick in.

They are likely to change the quality at the drop of a hat. So it's best to keep in check with them, they should give you a rundown of all the peramitors of your tap water if you aske them..

If you don't ask you'll never know... As someone once said....
