Re: [koi@kit] BROWN ALGAE ON POND WALL [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Kit,

Check if it is brown algae not brown film. If its browm film like its okay its good for everything in your pondCool But if its brown algae then its decaying dying algae which is bad newsUnsure I had this similar situation about a week ago when almost half of the algae on the wall died. My amonnia went thru the roof. It took me a good 5 days to bring the amonnia down with the help of water change and zeoliteWink

Light green water is good, but to be sure check your water params

Jon

yoo koi38..

tks for the fast respond.. its a brown film actually, easily scrap off.. some part of the wall is dark green in colour.. does dis mean the algae is growing very healthy?

my ammonia n nitrite is zero thou.. pH 7.3.. never measure my nitrate..

Hi Kit,

With that water temp i'll keep on feeding themCool. Higher water temps, koi are very active and they will need food to build up fats. But I normally starve my koi for a day or two per week to trim the algae on the floor and walls of my pondTongueSmile

Hi Kit,

JMatt is my only biofilter nothing elseUnsure. I have a settlement and prefilter and that's about itCrazy. That's why I'm planning for a DIY TT. All plans are in my head, its just a matter of extracting it to real worldCrazySlyLaugh

Re: [Koi38] BROWN ALGAE ON POND WALL [In reply to] Can't Post

koi38..

dats it??? wow.. i was thinking of using a blue cylindrical container (like the one u posted previously) for my tricle tower with a few thousand bioballs.. its about 3 to 4 ft in height. will it work..

i remember u design is water flow from bottom, i was thinking of reverse it n let the water trikle down.. i know u r going to say.. ' u wont know until u try it'..Wink.. how abt mixing the bioball with BH? water source from settlement chamber or direct from main pond?

sorry for the 'many' question.. tks..Wink

Re: [koi@kit] BROWN ALGAE ON POND WALL [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Kit,

You can use the blue drum for TT, why notSmile It will work the same. The only thing you need are additional holes for the bacteria to breath and also if you can use rotating spray bar its better. If you can't get that then a cross bars will doWink

If you're planning to mix the media the only way to find out is to try itLaughLaughLaugh

But check your water params first before installing any new bio so you can compare laterCool

Hi Kit,

For me anything that goes to biofilter I'd rather have the water coming from a settlement or prefilterWink

Re: [koi@kit] BROWN ALGAE ON POND WALL [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Kit,

If the flow rate in your settlement is too fast(like mine) can you pump the water from your prefilter or biofilter. You see my plan is pumping water from my bio to my palning TTTongue then goes back to the same bio(jmatt) then back to pond. Its like partially polishing the waterCool
