Buying in Bulk. Can't Post

Hello,

As some ppl know, im gonna build a pond. And now im sorting equipments/pumps. well, my fav. place to shop for equipments is at biocare, bunut. (friendly staff, lots of equipments, complete test-kits & its cheaper) and im interested in this pump. its a resun brand, with a pumping capacity of 18,000ltrs/hr. it cost B$198. after asking for a discount, the salesgirl gave me $180. Anyone wants to mass buy this pump? im buying 2 pumps, if can get $150 each, i get 3 pumps. Maybe, if buy more can talk to the owner for a bigger discount. Or does anyone of you recommend a different pump.

Incase anyone miss my other post. My future pond size: 14 feet x 12 feet x 4.5 feet deep sloping to 4.7 feet. Thats about 20530-litres. Filter using skippy design filter (current pond using this filter set-up) and gonna go for the Trickle Shower filter set-up too. (aint no harm for over-filteration right?)

A few questions, for my pond setup, is 1 BD sufficient?

here's the spec of the pump if anyone interested http://www.resun-china.com/products/english/hslxqlsb%20B-001.htm

below is top view of my future pond plan. Filter section still drawing. here's a brief idea.
its a raised formal pond. 2-feet raised from ground. settlement, pump chamber is dug 12 inch deep, total height is 36 inches. Skippy filter is also dug 12-inch deep plus raised 36inch up. So total height of skippy is 48 inch/4-feet. (dimension is 36inch x 38.5inch x 48inch). TT is 75 inch length x 18 inch wide x 12 inch deep, and gonna stack 4 of them. Tell me any flaws on this set-up. (this is not a final design, still gathering all your experience and to be place here)

As i have finish my drawing for the future pond, i showed my dad about it. He dont like the formal raised rectangle pond. he wants the pond to be oval, at ground level & it have to hava a bridge over it. Well, im still living under his roof, gotta obey to his liking right Blush. Humm, back to the drawing board now. Now its Plan B, i have to twitch and reposition a few bits, hope fully i can still bring the water volume to be around 20K litres. and he also caution me, as the pond gna be deep. (thats 3 feet now, not raisedCrazy im have to deal with children issues). And explain his about the raised pond again but with a 1 foot raised position, i'll make that 1 half feet eh. any advices or ideas?

Hi Eddie,
The shape of the pond does not matter but the parameters are. The advantage of above ground is that in future you can play with your kois as they are very friendly. My eat off my hand. You can carry them especially chargoi.
I read from other forums and aslo from the local Si fus the more the water the easier to look after the water. And we regards to safety eapecially children issue then there should be no compromise. Their safety is No.1

are this chargoi? (im not very familiar with koi types even after google them i cant differenciate them) well, robert this koi's are very friendly during feeding time, infact the shunbunkins, comets & common are friendly too. probbably, the koi taught them to suck on my hands, then food will come.. hehe Laugh the Raised Pond Plan will stay. Yeah, keeping ponds parameters in control are kinda my job. i do hydrocarbons & water testing everyday here at work, good pond conditions equals to happy healthy fish. Thats true, the more the water volume equals to less upset in the pond & more area for the fish to swim in.

Calling all sifus here, what kind of koi do i got?
i got 3 kois - golden ones, with viewable scales on top. 2 of them looks the same, the other one got a different pattern.

the side

In case any beginners viewing this, this might give you a few knowledge like me.Blush

the other type i got is - 3 colored looks like shunbunkins (i got 4 of these), the photo below you can see 3 of them, the other one not in pic got less black & red specks it got very bluish white body, more whiter than the shunbunkin) the centre one is a shunbunkin. Any beginners can spot the difference, hehe? Yes, they are cheap koi. RM7 each, Malaysian koi grade A. (A means good meh?)

i'll get more pics of them one-on-one tomorow, they are so photogenic...

Hi Eddie,

Your koi are of Malaysian/Singapore breed. Good thing you are joining the visit to fellow hobbists pond and you can really see some good koi they keep. However i used to keep kois like that too until i upgraded every recently. If you go to the koi.com.my you can see all the different breed/species in koi type section
Attached is a picture of a chagoi

Hi Eddie,

A few comments based on your pond design, hope you don't mind, they are my opinion and I might be wrong..Laugh
- I think two bottom drain is better then one, just in case you want to add more pumps and the flow rate of one bottom drain is not enough, also the water will not be gushing into the settlement chamber and stir up all the dirt in the chamber.
- From your diagram, I can't see how you are going to stop the flow of water from the bottom drain to the settlement chamber, as you might need from time to time, to drain down the settlement chamber or for other maintenance purpose.
- Your pond wall is thin and might not have enough strength, I hope you are using concrete and not bricks, then with the plastering, I don't think 5" is enough.
- The 1000 ltr/hr power head will not work for a pond of this size, furthermore, the kois will knock into them, injuring themselves and damage/dislodge the pumps.

Don't quite understand how your filter works, so no commentsLaugh, but from the pics, water looks good.

Cheers!
Scotto

Re: [Scotto] Buying in Bulk. [In reply to] Can't Post

thanks for the kind comments, scooto. as my previous post, i have to scrap of the rectangle pond idea and modify the existing pond that my dad made. i'll have as much as 3 BD or more as modifying the pond i'll have deadspots issues. it now got an island somewhere in the middle of this future kidney shape looking pond.
-is there any valve that can fit 4 inch? some member even go for 6 inch. Im still searching, on how the stand pipe works. You from brunei? do you install a surface skimmer?
-about my walls, thats another concern. im trying to sort out which one's more economical. its either going for full concrete with bars yes, and plaster for finishing or with concrete blocks the smooth plaster as finisher. i asked around, Concrete blocks are cheaper than bricks, and concrete blocks are much wider. brick 3inch wide, concrete block 5inch wide. (But i has yet to see other member ponds and get the right ideas, bare with me on this.)
-yeah, i agree with you on that. Instead i'll just run 3/4 inch pipe from the pump chamber using pump to these points as to prevent deadspots and exercise for fishes to swim against.

the current pond is using skippy filter design. filter media just using scrubbing pads, water + air enters through the bottom, and out through the top. Good stuff, very economical & very little maintenance. (i just drain the bottom for 5-10sec everyday that's it.) Filter start running around sept-oct 06.
