Well...one word, wow! coz i've been reading some of the threads..and u benghian is one who was here in this forum since way back 2 years ago..nice to meet u i thought u stop already..coz it has been so long..

well back to ur question, btw u can understand some brunei malay language right?! coz my language kinda mix abit in some part..so sory bout that...anyway..after so long searching of 'kadai ikan' (pet shops) in brunei that is growing like mushroom.. i found that its hard to find japanese koi here but before there was a shop located at Menglait dedicated for kois (a specialist) but due to 'inda laku' (not so good business) it closed.. eventhough u can find in some place in brunei, usually its quality is not good. Since in hook to koi n pond stuffs (about this year) i cant find any japanese koi anywhere around brunei-muara but others i dont know.

Usually u can find malaysian koi which is often found in many petshops. I read some mags, said that taiwanese koi are improving in quality and its kind good one and the price is between..let say the price between japanese koi and malaysian koi. but still this type is also hard to find here.. the shops that i survey'd that i found selling taiwanese koi are the pet shop at Bunut (the biological aqua somthin..somthin shop, forgot its name) and the new shop at beribi, AQSA fish shop. The one in bunut got some left, price about $40 for a size about 20cm but the quality is low. the one at beribi, well i forgot about the price n how the koi look like. The others like in Kuilap, like PetLink..sells koi but cheaps one so no good.

I saw a new 'kadai ikan' at jerudong recently in front of the goodview hotel.. but i havent been there.. so i dont know wat inside.

Well thats all i noe.. if i got some new info i will update u guys..

umm...benghian, do u hav some pictures of your pond or filter system? coz me wanna see bruneian made ponds n their filter..n how u tackle with the green pea soup water...heheh..anyway thnx for replying..

cheers..
Maxilla.

Elow..

Me just found a new finding! me hav check the petshop at jerudong just now (in front of the goodview hotel), and guest wat!?... me found a stock of japanese koi!! YIPPEE!! but on thing.. it comes from Thailand, n i heard that ppl are not importing from Japan anymore due to the new virus that infect the koi at Japan and to prevent the disease from spreading.

The price of the koi is about B$45 each, and the size is about 13cm, dunno for some if it is expensive or not..but if the quality is good then its worth it. That shop specialise in cold tropical fish like koi, goldfish and flowerhorn.. the quality of the fishes are quite good and the price vary from B$12~$110 depend on the size of the goldfish. They only have small size koi right now, the one that i hav said above and I recognise one type, Ogon, while the others i cant tell its type since they were swimming happy in a cirlce, swirling... (cant keep up wif the fishes so me felt dizzy seeing it..hehe) You should check the place out..

Elow...nice to hear that..

Sebenarnya me balum ada ikan koi sal my pond baru cuti ani me usai bersihkan (batah udah inda becuci, about two years) banyak taie ikan atu...*phew*Laugh tapi abis udah...bersih.. before it was clear use tap water n treat it.. then a few days later.. the pea soup water come back.. well you n i noe bout this rite>?! So I made a my first biofilters using a big blue drum (yg biasa utk usually buang sampah n it got leak so me seal it..n hopely it wont break)... but too bad for a few days it broke..Pirate so me hav pull out all of the media (using alfagrog rock, Blagdon brand, can be found at petlink) and now finding a proper baldi (drum)..n found one near a hard ware shop near my house... n now going to find its price...

hope its cheap...

Hello Maxilla,

Been to the shop at Jerudong this morning, quality of koi not very good. Price can reduced to $38.00 each small one. Buy two kohaku and see how it develop. For your baldi, I think you can get the one black in colour drum ( orang pakat untok menyimpan ayer) which you can find one from kedai runcit (kadai menjual plastic items) infront of centre point Gadong ( I think same roll with LEE CLINIC). This one is quite hard it cost around B$50.00 each (tawar lagi lah). Try to run you filter and put some shading to the pond it might help to solve your pea soup problem. Anyway, how big is your pond? Your filter size should at least 30% of your pond water.

elow...whew!Frown

just came back from the hardware shop...then i asked him about the drums but he told that the drums are not for sale..if im not mistaken, the drums are about 55 gallons. Luckly he told me that he knows another place where drums are sold...the place was also near to my house..so i went there for a quick view and saw piles drums laying around and its for sale... so mayb later i will go there again and ask about the price..

actually me follow a biofilter design using a drum, u can see the pic at its website: http://www.blondieswebdesigns.com/water_garden/filter/biofilter.html
i made it earlier n during the process of making it.. i found about this forums so i learn a lot of filter designs..but im going to stick it this design.

I do hav one pair of Oranda at home, which is my only goldfish.. since before i cant find good quality goldfish n since this pair was cheap that time, about $6 each medium size..so me bought it. Same for kois... i cant find japanese koi until i found one shop selling this type at jerudong.

I attached on pic of my pond when i was cleaning it, i cant find my digital camera right now..coz it is wif my mom so when i get it...i will post the latest pic of the pond. A little info bout the pond...since it was poorly design to the construction of my house..so the depth is about 2 feet for the first one the second one (with water in pic) is about 1 feet...shallow huh!?Crazy and i calculated the water amount it can hold, about 7000-6000 litres...me dun noe how to convert into tons.. help me..Tongue

k thats all for now..

till then..cheers!

Thnx for the info...

but since im just a student... i want to keep the budget low.. so im sticking to the drum i saw just now...i think its a secondhand one.. i hope its cheap, fifty bucks it too much for meFrown...

U said it has to be 30% of the water amount...hmm thats a prob for me...coz since i only have one pump...(not a submersible one) and the gph is quite low (actually i dun noe in gph, but lph [litre per hour] is about 1600lph) so rite now using it just for a tetra brand chamber filter (fibre glass) which i think is not enough for my pond..

So u bought a pair of kohaku, huh!? n thnx for the info the quality of it is poor..coz i dun noe much about the quality..i was planning to buy one of the ryukin in one of the big baldi.. the one near the back door...coz the colour of it was superb red n it was goodLaugh... but when i asked...they said its not for sale coz somebody earlier kinda book the fish...i hope i can but it for my collection...

Oh...i forgot to tell u somethin...early this year i post a msg at bruclass.com telling ppl about if someone was selling good quality of goldfish... n yesterday i search google for other bruneian forum about koi n goldfish and found one..entry...when i checked it was a reply at bruclass.com so the person said he was gathering people who are interested in kois n goldfish n made a group site..at msn groups.. http://groups.msn.com/HJAQUA rite now only three members.. coz not much advertisement about it...when i entered n checked. This person got a lot of kois..even his relative...u can see his photo album when u enter the group.. mayb he can sell some to us... heheheCool btw my email address is max_55_batsu@hotmail.com u can add me to ur msn messenger if u hav one coz during afternoon im usually available...

Lim, do u know where can i buy good water pumps that suit my situation... mesti in budget lah... and where do u buy media n filter stuff... any dealer u can recommend?

cheers!
Maxilla

Thanks for the link. Is the website still active? I can see all the photo are mostly post by the name "doctor". Do you know this person, maybe we can buy some quality fish from this guy.

Anyway, I normally getting my stuff from Miri, it is more cheaper compare to Brunei here. About your pond I think you need at least 6000-7000 litres/h pump so the water can pass through filter media at least one cirle in an hour.

elow...nice kois u got there...btw how deep is ur pond, the dimension? it looks like it is shallow or mayb its only the shallow part of the pond. I like the nice clear water..but the filament algae on the surface is normal rite?

Lim, do hav a Trickle Tower/Filter or ever made one.. i read a lot of threads n said that u can use a 10" pvc pipe...for me: what the...?! i cant even find those here...can u suggest where can i find it or probably an alternative one like a big drum or bisin or somethin... to make as the tower itself. And about medium... i want it light as possible coz if i use like porous rocks it will be heavy...since bioballs are EXPENSIVE here, GILA! do u noe the price of bioballs the cheapest in miri..or any alternative here in brunei where i can buy?

anyway thnx.. btw i post some pic of my goldfish in msn..n question that need to be answered by experience users...

Elow Kapok_koi.. Im REAL sorry that I discontinued in posting stuff in this community after a while coz i've been studying for my O-levels so.. things get out of hand.. and i forgotten bout this community and this thread..

But im happy that some users (bruneian) are still active in this community... actually i stopped temporary in this hobby cause my pond itself stop working.. due to in sufficient equipment.. and my homemade filter i talked about in the previous in above post.. i didnt manage to test it.. im just a student so i dun hav much money (paham2 la.. be usin plang me anie.. tapi mainly im using my own pocket money to buy the equipments..heheAngelic) and power to do stuff.. rite now im planning to buy a water pump (to work 24/7) that pumps about 6000 litres per hour for my 6000~7000 pond. Its crucial that i get that pump.. myb after i get it.. i can start continuing my hobby in pond management and koi again as before. So can u give me an info where i can find the pump here in brunei..?

Yea i noe plang good quality koi need belanja basar.. since u need a good filter system and equipment for it.. while others are easy to get here in brunei (e.g food etc.) Actually really good to noe that u sell japanese koi itself.. can u leave a contact number here..? mayb other bruneian users (such as myself, a beginner) want to buy from u.. ehhe. Other than not having kois at all.. i do hav knowledge about how do work on the pond.. infos found here are really usefull and it helped me alot.

Anyway.. nice to meet you.. hope to hear more from u Wink

(PS: I've just finished my O-Level exams.. so im quite free to do things in my holidays.. hehe.. mayb me usai balik my 'green-pea-soup' pond back.. all i need now is a good/strong pump~!Laugh to get things working back)

hi maxilla...juz 2 let u know that a pump is juz a pump...not really important.as long as u u can get ur water flow into ur filter chamber then its good enough.plus the most important of alll is ur biological filter. it really makes a different.however if u still require the pump that u want.i got one immersed pump (brand new).can be use 24/7 no problem.have seen it used n impressed with it so buy it but i havent used it....u know lah gatal hati kan mau that pump.now its catu saja nda bepakai. f u want it can sell u that pump.it definitely can pump 6000 litre per hour. let me know in this forum first then we'll negotiate lepas atu.

f u want to survey harga pump di brunei u can go to biocare d bunut.durang banyak choice lagi lah.im not trying to advertise that shop to u lah.im trying to help u saja coz that shop as far as i know is far better than other shop u found in brunei.a lot of stuff n reasonable prize.juz wana let u know that not all of the syuff disana r good quality.i do know that china made pump r hopeless but cheap.so up to u to choose.go cheap or pay bit xtra for a better one.

its actually good that u r still a student coz at this age u already play with koi.koi r usually diminati oleh org dalam umur lingkungan 30'ish lah.my fren n i r trying to run this kind of business slowly secara persendirian lah.nda mau bekedai coz grenti banyak belanja n then cost of barang n ikan pun naik tu.so cam ani we can minimise the cost of inflation of ikan yang kami bawa masuk ke brunei.this sunday ada ikan baru masuk but its a normal japanese koi.quality better than any koi fish that u found in the shop.grenti tu...

actually ez saja to pelihara koi..maintain good water n bagi makanan yang baik.nway nice to know u n keep in touch.. ooo btw benghian also have good koi....when r u going to buy a new koi....hahaha

Re: [Kapok_koi] Calling to all Brunei users [In reply to] Can't Post

Elow.. lol i noe plang a pump is jz a pump... but thats wat i've been missing all the time, a real good pump. Laugh Well its really important for me.. coz.. without a real sufficient pump, i cant get the optimal use of my biofilters.. I need a pump (6000 L/h) so that it can pump the whole water available in my 6000~7000L pond water in to the biofilters/filters in ONE hour.. that thats crucial if u wanna get the maximum efficiency of the biofilter to work.. coz me pernah mencuba udah.. using a relatively slow pump about 1000~L/h (pump inda sesuai for working 24/7) it can pump the whole water into my filters in about 4~6hours. It did work, making the water 'a bit' crystal clear (better than the usual 'green-pea-soup' water) but not all the water.. only some part of the water.. like only the top part of the water.. PLUS in order to get that result, i hav to wait for a few days rather than over night like other ppl say using a good pump (considering that the biofilter had already matured).

Anyway.. good to hear that u are willing to sell me ur water pump.. advantage for me that.. i dun need to scout for a good brand in brunei.. and inda tersalah bali pump yg ciplak.. stating it can work 24/7 this and that.. but sudah dipakai inda batah rusak tia.. I will talk this offer to my dad.. coz me dad yg kan lanja membali pump ani.. i tell u when i can give the green light la.. then we negotiate (im counting that ur pump, really pumps 6000 l/h)

Hmm... biocare di bunut atu selalu plang me aga.. me ada terjumpa pump that is good also there.. around B$200+ and i noe its a good one.. but im not fond of the design of the pump.. not like the usual.. 24/7 pump design.. thats look heavy duty and can suck everythin in.. the pump without a problem.. hehehSly

About kois... yea im willing to buy some.. ONLY when my pond is in a good condition.. meaning.. "Crystal Clear Water" WHAHAHAHAHACool hmm... mayb im planning on buying small and medium size jap kois.. for starters. Yea true plang.. koi di bunai ani inda bagus.. hehe... so mayb i will resort to u guys in buying good quality kois.. hehe Tongue

Btw.. for ur info.. me tinggal di bebatik.. biskita dimana? my contact no. (mobile) 8630051.. if need to tell me or somethin ka.. just drop by there.. and thnx for the info.. looking forward on that pump...hehe

hi maxilla...it seem u r strugling wif ur biological filter...that is alrite coz everybody does...mmm im gonna share u one info that i think might interest u.i think u r using bioball rite n f not must b lava rock.both r ok but u require a lot of them to produce a very good quality water as it only treats about 20 to 30 litres of water per 10 kg (for lava rock). what if i tell u that u can use one bacteria block weight about 1 KG n can treat 1000 litres of water...so in ur case can use 6 to 7 block. also u can use particular plant as part of ur filter system. this block doesnt take up a loy of spce as its only about 10cm x 10cm x 5cm in size.u cannot get it in the local shop however u can get it from me.i have used it n it really works.

one time i forget to switch my water off after toping up so i accidentally wash away all my bacteria out from my system and it turns my water a bit cloudy lah.it only takes one day to clear back my water. now im trying to improve my biological filter with my fren n still planning lah...payah cari barang nya.f this one works then barutah we share wif u all. about the pump i will double check dulu lah.

its a gd idea lah for u to buy such koi.im living in kapok muara...u can contact me at this number...8827029...anytime
