hey kit,Sly

hmm... Hi-Silk 21, yes some of us have been using these products for quite a while. And the results, TOP NOTCH product!Laugh. Started feeding Hi-Silk to strengthen the shiroji on my shiros. After a few mths of using them, the white part and lustre has improved impressively. Even the body mass has strengthen very well, w/ no adverse effects. Water quality has also improved as, this product when fed to kois results in less waste. If not mistaken, like Izeki food products it also has the same properties that helps the liver to digest and absorb food beter. They come in 5kg pack and yes, is vaccum packed. So quite economical, but of course not as economical as Saki Hikari 15 or 20 kilo bags, as some may admit to. LolWink. Overall, a good product for those looking to improve the body mass, lustre & shiroji. Btw, they also come in Sweet Potato version also.

hi kit,

too much carbohydrate not good for human?? hahaha. yea, maybe that's why i'm gaining body mass in the mid-section. too much carbs. hahahaTongue but, realistically carbs can only be bad for a person if he/she does not EXERCISE or make an attempt to keep FIT physically.

Coming back to the Sweet Potato version, basing it on a few comments from members in other forums, the sweet potato is normally fed in winter and has the same properties as wheatgerm. So i reckon, it could be a good alternative should the other be not available in the market.

Btw, doesn't wheat contain carbs as well? Have to do research on this soon.Wink

very scientific yahSlyLaugh.. talk abt FITness now hahahahaLaughLaugh... true lah, if exercise alot eat carb is fine, problem is i eat more carb than i exercise hhahahhahahaSlyLaugh, may b dats y i also gain mass in my mid section LaughSlySly

come to wheatgerms, all i know is they contain high vitamin E and due to its fibre content which is good for digestion of kois especially in colder climate.. if not mistaken potato is feed to koi b4 cold climate come soo dat the koi will gain mass, as during colder climate aka winter, the koi will b starvedPirateUnsurePirate.. i cud b wrong thou...

as for potato and wheatgerm, dont think they are the same.. well, may b both yeal carbohydrates..Wink

Dear Koi@kit & all the cifus/hobbyist in Brunei

I have been in this hobby for 10 months. I have a 12 ton pond and have about 6 kois. These kois are not the highest grade/highest quality pieces due to my budget. I got some from either Kepongkoi or SPKC.

Curently, I'm feeding these fishes with momo food (white part & FD color) as well as SPKC's food. I have also tried Hikari Color before. I read about the Hi Silk 21 is this thread and based on the feedback given by the forum members, I would like to try these Hi Silk 21 pellets to try and mix up the food I feed my fishes.

I would appreciate if anyone could tell me from where (which dealer) can I get this food in KL? How much does a bag of 5 kg cost?

Thank you for your assistance and have a nice day.

hi all,

i have heard abt hi-silk 21 but yet to try its wonder effect on my koi.
juz wondering how many types of hi-silk 21 are there...

i have come across on the net with regards to the potato version and apparently its a new one...pls correct me if im wrong lah..hehe

anywat here is an abstract abt the potato version:

Hi-Silk21 Sweet Potato is a tasty feed composed of sweet potato rich in thermostable vitamins help boost the immune system of your kois to prevent pathogenic micro-organisms infection. The brewers' yeast(glutathionel) and oligosaccharides in the feed enhance your Kois' health by regulating digestive function, stimulate the liver and have an anti-stress effect on your kois.

although i dont really understand them haha...so i will leave the topic for discussion

cheers...

btw also found this but not sure whether its related to hi silk 21 as well..
nevertheless i think it cannot be used in brunei as well due to temperature requirement...but agen juz to share wif u all

Hi-SILK JAPANES SILK WORM PUPAE
It is an ideal natural food best for growth and lustre of the body.
Feeding Instructions : Never feed silkworm pupae below 18 degrees Celsius. Kois cannot digest this high protein food below this temperature. Feed Hi-Silk as a complementary food besides the normal feeding. Before feeding, soak them in lukewarm water for 1-2 hours to soften them first to help digestion and prevent overeating.

Re: [Kapok_koi] Hi Silk 21 [In reply to] Can't Post

yoo kapok_koi..

from wat i heard, silkworm get spoilt very fast in our climate. they oxidise pretty fast. soo no point supplement to our koi as oxidized koi food bad for the liver. dats why i always used koi food dat are vacuum sealed. ie. momotaro or sakai food.

sometime people like to buy 15kg to 20kg food thinking it can save money, but if u dont finish ur food by 3 mth they start oxidise. best to buy smaller ie. 2 to 4 kg pack.. soo ur koi eat fresh koi food everytime. beside dat, lots of large packing food dont come in vacuum pack. who knows how long they have been on the shelves.. esp dos without exp date.Crazy

back to hi silk.. if u want to feed silk worm to ur koi, why not use hi silk 21 coz it contain silkworm powder (something related to silk worm) in the pellet.. they come in 5kg packing..

as for the potatoes.. hmmmm.. tooo much cardohydrate make ur koi fat and.... get tummy...SlyLaugh

hi there..

silk worm just like other worm, high in protein.. but if ur water condition not good, the koi will suffer..

best food for kois is of vegetable origin.. ie..vegetable protein .. a statement by Daisuke of momotaro koi farm..

Hi Kit & other forum members

At this stage, I really enjoy learning about koi from your forum and the topics that is being discussed in this forum. Thanks for the feedback.I will try to contact spkc and check if they sell this product. If its too expensive i will stick to momo & spkc food but will only consider hi silk 21 later if budget permitsTongue.

I feed my fishes twice a day early in the morning and late evening when I come home from work and I normally give them a moderate portion only (so that they finish eating within 5-10 mins). I normally give them momo food and spkc food but in no particular order. My pond and filter size is not that big (pond size is 18ft x 7ft x 3.5ft and filter is 4ft x 7 ft x 3.5ft). I had wanted a deeper pond of approx 6 feet but had to settle for 3.5ft due to underground telekom and tnb cables.

After I bought a momo sanke about 3 months ago, I noticed that its hi was a bit off (like faded). Then I read about giving them color food and I went to get this FD food after consulting vincent. Suffice to say that after using it for about a month now, i find the hi has improved but then again this is coming from a newbie la..I also dont give them FD everyday as its quite expensive but maybe only 2-4 times a week. I am satisfied with the rest of my fish (on the shiroji as well as the hi) given that they are not really the high quality pieces. The shiroji on my shiro is also ok la. I suppose you get what you paid forWink.

Hi Din..

soo u have been using FD colour, u see any improvement? by the way by saying and explaining this "FD colour" and their use later i hope no one will think u r trying to sell this product hereSlyLaugh...

koi dat grow too fast usually will hv abit of colour fade, not to worry too much as the growth rate of koi slow down, the skin quality will improve..

Re: [koi@kit] Hi Silk 21 [In reply to] Can't Post

HI Koi@kit/April & other Brunei forum members

I also hope that my mentioning of FD colour, momo & spkc food is not perceived as trying to promote these product but just sharing what I'm currently usingUnsure. We are all sharing what we feed in taking care of our kois. Don't you all agree?

I tend to also agree that one needs to know the characteristics of the koi that one is buying and that's why it makes it more interesting to see how the fish grows against what you know about the fish and not forgetting the bloodline, water management etc. In other words managing our own expectations. The sanke that I bought is from the ryu bloodline (have to qualify that this piece is not the top grade la) and based on my readings from the forum in general, its typical of momo fish to first grow in terms of length and put on girth later. Is that so? I can see that in my sanke after a couple of months now. I was excited to see that after getting this piece for a couple of weeks, one sumi spot appeared on the shoulder but kindof faded after the next week. However, I also noticed yesterday that the sumi has come back out. This is very interesting for me to observe.

As for water management, I try my best to maintain good quality. So far (touch wood), my water parameters are as follows:- nitrite zero, nitrate almost zero, KH 5 and PH is 8.1. I know PH seems kindof high but the thing is it has been consistent. PH fluctuates 8.1-8.3 throughout the day for the past 10-11 months and fishes look ok. Btw I also use onitaiji on a weekly basis when I change water.

no worries lah brader.. just kidding.. i m glad u come to brunei forum to share ur view and xperience..

talking abt nitrate, urs almost zero??!!?? have u check ur tape water for nitrate? very curious..
IF u want to lower ur pH u can use vinegar BUT make sure u lower it slowly as lowering too fast can stress ur kois..
BUT if i were u i wont do it since ur koi is living happily there, do u happen to know thiam hwa??? the last time i visited him his water improved alot, if u r in KL u shud pay him a visit and get some advice from him..
