Hi disappearance.Help.... Can't Post

hi cifu,

i hve got a problem on the hi loss.2 koi in my pond started to lose their hi gradually.1st one is sanke, its hi has already disappear.almost half of the body .the other one is kohaku.i found the hi on several scales starting to disappear.unfortunately, i havent taken their picture.I'll post them if i already have their pics.both koi comes from sakai.

1.mainly,what should i do to bring back their hi?
2. what's the cause of the hi disappearance? is it the water quality?or is it due to koi food?
3.should i feed them with colour food(e.g spirulina)?is it fine for tosai koi ranges 16-30 cm?i heard that colour food could harm their liver when feeded at the age of tosai?
just for info, i feed my koi with saki-hikari growth.Thanks.
Best regards,

brandon

Hi Brandon,

Happy new new to u.. sori for the late reply.. to answer ur questions..

1.mainly,what should i do to bring back their hi?
its very hard to bring back the hi, coz they depends on the following 3 big factors.

2. what's the cause of the hi disappearance? is it the water quality?or is it due to koi food?
the causes are
a. bloodline, better understanding of bloodline will tell u why the hi disappear..
b. water quality, water condition not in top conditions can cause lose of colour, may b fading ..
c. koi food, feeding low quality koi food can cause this..

3.should i feed them with colour food(e.g spirulina)?is it fine for tosai koi ranges 16-30 cm?
usually young koi are not advicible to feed colour food, will effect their future, according to some expert..

i heard that colour food could harm their liver when feeded at the age of tosai?
yep.. i agree..

i hope i answer all ur questions, if its not clear pls do ask me again.. tks..

Hi dissapearance also due to high water temperatures.Stress is another factor which comes from poor water quality.Usually lost of Hi always on tosais and very difficult to recover.

Hi koimann,

thsnks a lot for the info.I really appreciate.Actually hi losses happened when i quarantined the fish.I put the QT in the sun as to raise up water temperature because i was told that high temperature(30-40 c) could kill the parasites, bad bacteria fast.some people put a heater in the QT tank.as a result, the fish became well but i faced hi losses.Frown
But the other fish which was in the same QT was ok,it didnt lose its hi.
Best regards,

brandon

Some kois will lose its hi,some will not.Best thing to do when QT kois,do not heat the water. What you can do now is feed them some colour food together wit the Saki growth and see if the Hi comes back.Maybe you might be lucky!Smile

hi koimann,

Do u think it's a good idea to feed colour food as to bring back the hi?bcoz some people disagreed that it could harm the fish liver when feeded with colour food at the age of tosai.please enlighten me on the usage of colour food.thanks
Best regards,

Feeding colour food for a short period of time, say 2 to 3weeks is not a problem.I feed my kois colour food once every 3months for 3 weeks.
