Cool_ice59Cool,

i agree with what the others have advise. infact the easiest and most cost effective way of increasing your filter capacity is to convert 1/3 of you pond into the up & down filter as what is in your blue box. What you need is to only create the barriers for the chambers and thats it. You've constructed a filter bigger than your blue box.Wink

Hi,

Just a comment here.

Won't it be easier just to replace the blue box with a bakki shower? ie no reduction of the pond size meant for kois?

yah, the gang is right, u can opt for bakki shower....that is if you and your family dont mind the appearance and also your neighbours are a distant away....

so far, only hardcore hobbyist opted for bakki and they do still have a proper filtration system but just wanted it to be more perfect...due to expensive koi in tens and hundreds of thousand each....

For me, there was a thought but then if u have seen and listen to one, i doubt u can get approval from home minister not to mention getting complains from neighbour though we have detached houses....

but if u are ok with teh 2 issues, then u should in fact opt for it otherwise as i have suggested, take 1/3 of the space for filter with 3 chambers would be suffice. Noted your length is about 18 ft, hence take 6 feet away for filter and u still got 12 ft which may be a little small but good enough to have 10 large koi...

SO allright, wht is the prope system keep in mind the pond is at our main entrance, something huge will definetely freak my mom out,

my next idea would be constructing something out of an old 6 feet aquarium and turn it into a bacteria house solely inside are those ceramic rings and bio balls... following the concept of the blue box filter thingy.. up down up down. i ask a few shop if they sell bacteria house.. none in kb so far...

i also planned to installed a new circuation pump... i dont take my parents will go for a huge shower system which will obstruct the view of the house..

if anybody have a great day, i will surely appreciate it.. and taking 1/3 of the pond souds reasonable but i dont think my dad will go for that..

no worries my mom talk to me about building a pond in the ground.. on the garden.. if this one works out...

for in the meantime if anybody have detail guidance more than happy to obliged,,

regarding where i can ge the stuff.. for the cramped pond offcourse

ok, just briefly but u should take sometime going through the postings at the site and get comments from the rest as mine is not absolute perfect...

(a) First, identify which end will be the filter and allocate 1/3 for the filter chambers
(b) Before u build the wall, make sure u (if u need to), hack the floor/ bottom for drainage at the main pond to flow into the first chamber
(c) Also, when u build the wall separating the main pond, make sure u have a few hole for (1) surface skimmer (it has to be below the water level 6" below, (2) hole to allow a pump at the last chamber so that u can attach a pump to the main pond and lastly another as standby (u can use it to put a pipe through for the bottom air ring in the main pond (if u want to have it) - only 1 hole to the first chamber and 2 at the last chamber
(d) u need 3 chambers of equal size
(e) the chambers - if u can again, hack the first chamber bottom and try to make a V shape bottom so that u can place a sump in the middle so that the waste from the main pond into the 1st chamber can be easily flush out (u need to do piping to include a valve and to be attached to a pump and ultimately to the drain. Remember to also have a 'overflow" pipe (at the top level of your water) so that excess water will automatically flow out. This can be at the main pond as well but thought since ur pond already ready, its easier to do it at the filter chamber
(f) whether updown or otherwise - u decide
(g) second chamber - nothing much to be done but if u use updown - also try to make the floor/bottom slanting towards the 1st chamber so that waste down get stuck there
(h) 3rd and last chamber (of course best to have 4 but with your size 3 will do fine) - u can place your pumps here and all the valves

Once u complete the construction, let us know and we will advise on the materials which is quite standard .....

gang, any other comments coz i may missed out something...
