hi cool_ice...
green pond problem is very common n actually not i big concern...the only concern is u cant see ur fish...hehe..
having green water is good for small koi as they grow better in this condition compare to crstalline water...but im sure our sifu here will agree that having mud pond is the best choice of all..haha...
nwayy..green water is unavoidable its just a matter of how to control it..so boost up ur bacteria n that shud be fine...f it still doesnt then consider alternative option. the challenge here is the 35 koi in ur pond...more fish more waste...
just wondering if there is any algae growing on the tiles...??

Thanks. m using thbue filter with 3 comprtment, as they suggest me, the firt part i stuff with hard green mat and a couple bags o ceramic bacteria with holes in the middle and a few bio ball,

as for the second compartment is a bag of amonnia remova, withfew hard mat and bio ballss and the last comprtmentis stuffed with white kapas kah tu, with bio balls, and have an air pmp to regulate th flo from one end to the other,

probbably due to the length i was thinking of instaling a uv filter, i check at the shop in k cost around 480...

perhaps it will work out.....

i think the problem is it is in dirct cntact of the sun

hey ice..

ur set up salah lah.. my suggestion is 1st compartment pakai kapas, then hard mat (jap matt?) then last ceramic..

UV lite? temparary boleh lah. use more media for bacteria to grow on, thus can purify the water ...
uv lite will rosak, if u have to change balik balik abis jua $$ tu..

u can shade ur fibre atu temparory and see if theres improvement..

pictures of ur pond and set up will b easier to solve..

hehe..very familiar ur problem ani...actually im having the same problem jualah..
my pond pun outside under heavy sunlight n rain so greeen water sentiasa jadi my problem. so i did use uv light jualah but as kit say its only a temporary solution..banar tu..
masa ani i use shades yg kena pakai for orchid atu lah to cover my pond.. so atu help a bit...

banar nya c kit ur arrangement atu salah n i have a feeling its not enuf jua...for those kind of system u need a lot esp the bio ball n it will cost u more... y dont u look into using bacteria house...juz research lah dulu n find out how it is...m using them at the moment n so bagus lah no complain n water pun sentiasa clear cuma hijau saja...other than that u boleh pakai ur current system cuma tambah lagi lah..esp the biological filter...kapas n mat atu nda payah banyak...f u mau result cepat then consider bacteria booster untuk menambah bacteria in ur pond..d kadai banayk tu but f u need recommendation boleh jua...

hehe i cant say much lah dalam forum ...takut kena tembah advertising hehe...so PM saja f u need any info...

cheers...

Hi Cool_Ice5,

SELAMAT DATANG KE FORUM BRUNEI.

Dimensions of 18feet x 4feet x 5 feet. Sounds very similar to my puddle back home!! hahaha.... Albit too small for the growing kois. Am concerned though on the filteration set-up and water level of your pond. 1.5feet water level is TOO shallow..... Shocked Needs to be altleast 3feet for the kois to excercise properly..... And 35 kois swimming in it, bro, you seriously need to cull as it would be very hard to maintain good water there, especially if your feeding regime is heavy.

I agree w/ what kit has stated, your pond has the potential to grow good kois to surpas over the 60-70cm mark, especially with the depth you have. So increase the water level.

Your filteration system needs to be upgraded albit with a biological filter & a Mechanical filter, to maintain good water. Yes, the algae blooms (green water) is partly contributed to the sunlight, nitrate, nitrite, doc, and the ph in your water, which is likely to be caused by your stocking level. Too many kois la bro.. Unsure

A good photo of your set-up and the pond would definetly help us all advise you further on what to do. Cheers...

Sly

i see~...Wink

here's a long way on how to do it.
  1. Attach the files. (each thread can hold 2 files only and each of minimum sizes)
  2. Post it.
  3. Once posted. (point your arrow towards on of the file names, right click and copy.
  4. Edit the post and you will see this icon"". Click it and past the copied file into the column. OK.
  5. you will see, the photo on the thread.
  6. post it. "Sadaqallahhulazim"Cool

Hope that works... cheers

hi ice/..

honestly speaking... ur pond can keep koi, but at this stage, not suitable to keep koi.. too many pulau lah, ur filter.. under-size man.. shud consider bigger filter for more media..

Re: [CooL_Ice5] Kuala Belait 26yr old baru baru pelihara koi [In reply to] Can't Post

hi, my 2 cents worth. If u really want to start this hobby, i think u might as well rebuild your pond...if cost is the issue, then drop the blue box and from the rectangle shape pond, build a wall about 1/3 of the total pond size, then spilt the 1/3 into 3 chambers so that u can have the filter build within. Of course, dont forget to do all the pipings to flow into the chambers etc. I dont think it will cost much or u can actually DIY. The issue is of course, its not deep enough but again if u dont mind, u can increase the height of the wall as much as u can to give enough height since u can do much about the width now.
Just read up at the posting and u will see some examples of good pond setup.

ideally, u should just dismantle everything and rebuild preferable underground to balance that of your fencing....
just a thought..

Thanks for your 2 cents, cant do mch about the pond construction, it was build by my dad.. so all i do is get the fish and the system up and running... im plannin to raise the waer tommorow after the laguna filter is all set up. probbably as best i can 3 and the half feet height or 4 perhaps....

i appreciat your thought, the pond was build deeper than this , my mom freak out because it disrupt the design of the house so raised it up to our vernda height....

so the best i can do is set up more filter, and perhaps install more air pump.. insyallah, it will work out soon.. i obtain lots of great tips and knowledge from bruneian who is truly an artist in the matter..

intresting to hear their views, see pictures of their koi, where they obtained it and stuff...

im glad i found he forum.......

Very grateful Kbians

3 or 4 feet should work fine, but ur problem is still not resolved as u need a proper filter system. Laguna will not work as it doesnt have the capacity to serve your pond....

best is to reduce the size of your existing pond by taking 1/3 as your filter chambers and lay the bricks to build the wall....i dont think it will cost much....

So even with the blue box filter and the laguna wont help much.... im planning to install another circulating pump. one for th blue box filter and one for the laguna... expecting higher turn over rate..

and kameer suggested me to get the aeration right.. so planning to set up a couple of venturi system as well...

im glad to seethe water is a bit clearer with the pump running on 45 minute.. ill check again tommorow... if it doesnt cope. then ill install another filter..

i agree with forumist view... you want to pelihara the fish get the system right.. kesian wah....

yes, blue box and laguna wont help much....though u may see your water becomes clearer but that doesnt mean your water quality will be good as i doubt u will have enough good bacteria to keep the cycle and maintain the water quality....
Aeration of course is a must but filter have to right otherwise it will not help much. OF course, if u intend to have only a few fishes, then its fine but again if those koi grows beyond 60 cm, u will have problems and nightmare to manage..
as i have suggested, just redo your pond as it wont cost u much and chances are the cost maybe cheaper than the laguna etc that u have been buying....not to mention more stuff to buy when the water quality is still not there....dont waste money as what kit said.....
