Re: [koi@kit] MY NEW POND .. ONLY SHOWER SYSTEM [In reply to] Can't Post

Guys,

Just came back from our cifus pond to see his setup. Clearly this is the most simple and yet most effective pond & filter setup i've came across. Water was crystal clear and free of impurities. Fishes were happily gliding through the water.

Am thinking of building something similar to this once i can find the space.... heheh

Great show cifu...

There shouldnt be any problem with 12 kois, since you are running full bakki shower. Just check the standard water parameter, it should be fine. I am too running bakki shower in addition of a small underground filter. Rogermoo has 60+ in a 10 ton ponds with 100kg bakki.

hi kit,

Thanks 4 the warm welcome.Wowwwww...i'm amazed with ur water clarity.
1. Do u use only bacteria house for the filter media?
2. Do u have a settlement chamber or something else before the water enters the bakki shower? or vortex?
3. Do u also use resun water pump 4 this pond?
4. what is the turnover rate for BS?
5. what's ur amount of BH ? 10 kg/ ton water?

too many questionsAngelic???sorry because i'm quite new to koi keeping.and i'm planning to build another koi pond that use only BH .btw, where's the fish ?i saw nothing ,only the waterTongue.thx..

Re: [brandon] MY NEW POND .. ONLY SHOWER SYSTEM [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Brandon

Are you asking kit or me?Tongue ANyway to answer some of your Qs.

1. Do u use only bacteria house for the filter media?
The bakki shower is an addition to my current underground filter, which is too small for the pond and stocking.

2. Do u have a settlement chamber or something else before the water enters the bakki shower? or vortex?
For my case, no, as I have my underground filter with a vortex. If you are going to build a only shower system, it is a good idea to build a large mechanical settlement channel or vortex.

3. Do u also use resun water pump 4 this pond?
No, I am using Tsurumi pump.

4. what is the turnover rate for BS?
Each pump is about 13ton/hr based on the pump spec. With all the elbows and height, it might be around 10ton/hr each.

5. what's ur amount of BH ? 10 kg/ ton water?
10kg/ton???Shocked Thats way too expensive for me!Tongue I am using about 3-4kg/ton (120kg for 28ton pond).

As for your last Q, my kois are swimming on the other side. Tongue

Re: [brandon] MY NEW POND .. ONLY SHOWER SYSTEM [In reply to] Can't Post

hi brandon..

1. Do u use only bacteria house for the filter media?
yes i only use bacteria house, i used to put mat on the top layer, but it get clog easily and water not so good.
2. Do u have a settlement chamber or something else before the water enters the bakki shower? or vortex?
i dont call it a settlement chamber, its more like a pump chamber coz i use submerged pump.
3. Do u also use resun water pump 4 this pond?
yes, Resun 18000lit/hr.
4. what is the turnover rate for BS?
water is ard 6 tons, pump is 18000lit/hr, so my turn over rate is 3 time..
5. what's ur amount of BH ? 10 kg/ ton water?
currently i have 40kg inside the shower, my theory is 10kg/ton, but i usually add on slowly..

It is made of plastic, 5mm thick acrylic glue together. Have a look at the pic.

Re: [brandon] MY NEW POND .. ONLY SHOWER SYSTEM [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Brandon

How old is ur pond?I dont see the algae growing on the pond wall at all.
My pond is about 2 1/2 yrs old. It used to be filled with algae all over the wall and lots of string algae and my filter is always clogged by that. About a few months ago, before setting up my shower, all my kois are hit by parasite, due to addition of new fish. So salt of 0.3% was the one that killed all the algae in a few days, and after the kois have recovered, I have lost at elast 80% of the algae on the wall. Since then I have build a shade to cover 90% of the pond and there is no more algaeTongue. Since I started using bakki shower with
CWIC - Constant Water Inflow Change (more info is here http://www.koivet.com/html/articles/articles_details.php?article_id=282&name=Newest%20Articles), my pond has always been that clear, so I am not sure is it due to the bakki or CWIC. I did use PP (2ppm) once every 3-4 months to clear the organic when I wash my underground filter.

Re: [koi@kit] MY NEW POND .. ONLY SHOWER SYSTEM [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Koi@kit

Well, I guess as long there is hole, there will be air. Tongue Yes there do smell, but more like algae smell. BUt inside the container, it smell like ammonia, I guess the shower system is also gaussing off ammonia.

i think the PP is the one killing ur algae..
I only start using PP, after the salt and the building of the shade. So I doubt it. Wink

tot when u wash ur underground filter u oredi clear the organic waste? i m confuse..
I am talking of the organic that dissolve in the water not the solid organic wasteTongue. If you see lots of bubble especially at he water return(e.g. water fountain), those are the organic I am talking about.
can PP remove smells from water since they clear organic waste?
Yes, PP does remove smell from the water. If ever you PP, and it turn brown after 1/2 hr, it shows lots of organic in the water. Thats the reason, multiple PP (max 3 times) need to be done, if you are using PP to kill the parasite. It need to remain pink/amber for at least 4-6hrs to be effective. There are some articles on using PP at the koivet web site.

Cheers.
