Momotaro Kohaku grow out event Can't Post

hi all..

following last year's showa grow out event which the kindai showa emerged winner, wud like to organise another grow out event which this time only momotaro kohaku will b involved.

this time there will b a change of rules..

1. all 5 koi will b kept in the same pond. ie same water quality and food given.
2. the winner will b judged for the most growth in 6 mth NOT the biggest koi wins..
3. special prize will be given to the most improve 'skin quality' (if theres any after 6 mth)
4. special prize will b given to the most 'girth' (if theres any after 6 mth)

just need more suggestions if any from fellow member.

NOTE. this is just a propose event to improve selections skills for fellow members.

heres some pictures of the kohaku. 6 koi will b showed but only 5 koi will b for grab..

GGMKK,
I think the line 2 and line 4 is expressing the same thing. "most girth" is already one of the criteria for "most growth".
Just my opinion.

where are the other 3 koi photos?? Laugh

Nice pattern, but almost certain male, good for koi keepers that don't have big ponds, have fun.

GGMKK,
Please enlighten me on this.

If a koi grows to a certain size which outbeat the other, the girth may not go with it, do you call it "most growth" ?

If the koi grows to a certain girth and outbeat the others although it is shorter by 4in, do you call this koi "most girth"?

hi Abang,

who ever u r, welcome to the forum. and as cifu kemeer said, pls teach us how to see male or female koi..Shocked

from my experience, one of our cifu here bot a showa at nissai 6 mth ago, female but recently change into mALE.. how confident r u abt 'male' o 'female'??Smile

momotaro got 1 sanke after 2yr 4 mth at 82cm then they found out its a MAle .. the thing is all this while this koi is mix with other 69 jumbo female hahahahahahhaahSlyLaugh

abt male koi best to keep in smaller pond. i m impressed and fully agree with u.. lot of people want to keep female but eventually cant acheive great results coz cant bring up the female coz " pond too small"..

anyway, we all welcome ur comment.

Re: [kemeer] Momotaro Kohaku grow out event [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Kemeer n Koi@kit

I believe there is not hard and fast criteria to apply here when it came down to determine sex of koi, it is a combination of the shape of the fish, shape and size of the fins, the Hi, etc. When looked at many fish afters many years, one can more or less get a feeling of the koi is male or female. Some kois are more easy to see and some kois are more not clear. I am sure with your years of experience, you are able to more or less tell, but just you dont say out.
There is nothing wrong with male kois, different keepers have different objective in keeping kois, if pond is small, then keep male kois, they are beautiful and cost much less, see too many nice females spoil by small ponds.
Back to the growout, if I am choosing, I think 3rd koi (1st picture 2nd row) will grow, too bad I cannot participate as I am from penang.

Hi Abangkoi,

Do not worry now with Airasia everyone and koi can fly. I am sure Airasia can link you from Penang to Bandar Seri Begawan.Sly
If I have a chance I will visit you and your pond in Penang afterall I have not been there for ages.
