Next Pond, Robert's house.

Before we starts on anything, we were greeted by Robert famous kuching laksa. Smells a miles away and have to taste it in no time.

We have to thanks Robert and Sue for their hospitality and tasty laska!! WinkLaughSly

Before we go further, we have to salute Robert and his wife on their creativity on pond setup and design. Their DIY works opens up some of our minds and wonder who can come close to that in Brunei when talking about pond DIY. Laugh

Rigorous TT of Robert overnight work! Purely bioball and a very slim layer of matt on top to filter water. Anybody want to buy number, robert is giving you 2 numbers now. The rest you have to figure out.Sly

The water flow is rushing.

Sai Hu & President, Sorry for keeping u all waiting..

Pic1 - Male Momotaro Kohaku - size = 55cm..
Pic 3 - Male Momotaro Kohaku - Size = 48cm..but the size of the koi can not compared to the pair of hand (which belongs to Sai hu..Laugh)
Pic 2 - Female Momotar Showa - size = 40cm...been with me for almost 1 month..

Another Male Momotaro Kohaku posted by sunshine is one of the same batch with Pic 1& Pic 2.

A lot of ppl doubted that these batch of Momo koi are useless (cant grow big), but thanks to Sai Hu recommendation which i trust and I'm indeed a very happy koi keeper for these koi which are with me for the last 8 month.LaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

Hope that they will continue to grow...Smile

Dear Senor Presidente

Thanks for you and the rest of the ci fus for the visit and me and sue really learned a lot from the on the spot discussions.
And aslo thanks for 10 kgs of bacteria house which has been placed on the same day on the lower tray and the bio balls has been transfered to the other section. I also inceased the pipe size to 4'' dia type as per your suggestion and the flow is now very much better.

Re: [Robert Lee] Pond Visit August 2006 [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Robert Lee,

I hope you don't mind me making some comments regarding your pond's water. From the photos
posted by Cifu Sunshinekoi, it seems to me that there is a thick yellowish tint in your water.
I think you may want to try placing a layer of fine white cotton wool over the top tray of your
Bakki Shower to act as a sieve to trap all those minute floating particles. You will have to replace
the cotton wool with a new one everyday or else the water will overflow out dued to the clogged up
to the cotton wool. Just try it out for the next few days whether this method will be successful in
getting rid of the yellowish tint. If it did not, those rolled cotton wool are quite cheap to purchase
and not too great a loss, hahahahahh!

Good Luck & Best Regards,
Thiam Hwa

Re: [Robert Lee] Pond Visit August 2006 [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Robert Lee,

Just wanted to add a further comments regarding your pond's BH Shower set-up. It seem to me
that you have 2 nos. pumps placed directly in the pond to pump water up to your Bakki Shower,
am I correct?
From the photos, It looks like the 2 pumps are located quite close to the Bakki Shower. If it was,
may I suggest that you have a longer piping for the pumps to be located at the furthest end of the
pond away from the Bakki Shower so that the returning water flow circulation within the pond
will be more evenly distributed.
With your current set-up now, the returning water from the Bakki Shower is instantly suck back in
by the pumps. Hence, the water circulation cover only a small area and not the entire pond. It is
important that a pond should not have dead spots for stagnant water to accumulate because these
will contribute to the poor water quality, IMHO.

Best Regards,
Thiam Hwa

Dear Thiam Hwa

Thanks a lot for your comments and yes ci fu sunshine felt the same way. You guys are really good and will do the necessary adjustment.
At the moment my colleagues are making proper stand for both the Bakki shower and the trickle shower.
I have two pumps jetting the water around the pond.
On the trickle shower I have a lay geotextitle filter but i think it is still not sufficent.
Can the filter cloth be placed directly on the bacteria house?

Re: [Robert Lee] Pond Visit August 2006 [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Robert Lee,

I am sure you can place a filter cloth directly over the Bacteria House. You can tell by looking at it
whether the debris collected contain very fine particles or not after a few hours. If not, I would advise
you to use the fine white cotton wool as suggested earlier. I think it trap dirts better, IMHO.

Cheerio,

Dear Thiam Hwa,

the filter cloth that i used get clog up in just 2 hours. And normally just let overflow until eveining when i get home. So one change in morning and one in the evening and they are not difficult to wash just spray them.
