Re: [koi@kit] SAKAI KOI FOOD [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi kit,

I'm using Sakai wheatgerm now... best wheatgerm koi food I've tried, period.

Reasons being -

1) My koi love the taste. I've tried various wheatgerm koi food in the past, Hikari included, and none of my koi took it as well as Saki Hikari Growth which I've been using all this while. Sakai wheatgerm is the only exception so far, and my koi finish each serving no longer than Saki Hikari Growth. In fact, they hunt down every single medium pellet I feed them.

2) I've been using Sakai wheatgerm the past 2 weeks, and apparently it doesn't affect my koi's bulk. Past servings of wheatgerm meal seems to slim down my koi a little. Sakai wheatgerm doesn't have this trait.

3) My koi produce no more waste than Saki Hikari Growth with probiotics. Granted wheatgerm is easily digestible, but past servings do produce noticeably more waste than Saki Hikari Growth. Seems the Sakai blend is above market's quality.

4) My koi are more active more of the time. Usually my koi is a little lethargic after feeding, and it takes about 3-4 hours before the whole lot of them will start scouraging for food again. Feeding Sakai wheatgerm seems to lessen this effect and my koi are noticeably more active after feeding... they just seem not getting enough of it and still surfacing wanting more Laugh.

Too bad none of the dealers in KL carrying it... I would use it as a daily feed for my koi if available. I don't get it why some hobbyists find it expensive... I believe most of us spend more on a single meal dinning out with friends than what we spend on koi food in a month Unsure.

Cheers,
Dennis

cud this b due to wheatgerm or improved water quality? i remember u said upgrade filter or something?

Hi kit,

1) The amount fed is the same. My koi finished each serving of Sakai wheatgerm faster than other wheatgerm meal.

2) Have not tried Momotaro koi food

3) I believe better quality food allows better absorption by the koi (probiotics aside), hence less waste.

4) I've planned to overhaul my entire pond to a much bigger Bakki shower system. But my family went for a long holiday to the States last year, which inevitably doesn't allow me to start working on it. I'll ask for your advise on the amount of Bacteria House needed per ton of water when I begin my project later this year Wink

I think hauling 4kg of koi food is quite a hassle... thanks for your kind gesture but I really do not want to trouble you. It's warmly appreciated.

Cheers,
Dennis

Dennis,
I have the same observation like you. I am feeding momotaro pellets and sakais' at different hour and some other time feed them at dedicated period to see any difference. The result is sakais' is more favourable in terms of taste in the sense of Koi. 2 different pellets give 2 different growth. If talking about koi hunting pellets, sakai pellets will be koi first choice.

Hi Dennis..

not a problem.. when i started using BH they said 7kg per ton, a few years later they said 10kg per ton.. when i met Daisuke of momotaro he said :-

300kg BH for 20 ton pond for 10 koi measured +/-70cm... as koi grow more BH shud b added..

i will let u do the calculation..Wink

Hahaha, I miss my koi. I remember the last 2 days before I left. I just played with them and check on their genders without bowl up. Kind of enjoying as they dont feel alien at all.

I hope they are still growing in my tiny pond! Laugh

Good idea! count me in. Quantity-wise, you know how much I need.
