Hi kit,

Hope I read the wording on the picture correctly.

It's an offspring of Botan II yes? This line is quite obscure unlike the famed Rose and Benibana series. At 62cm for a sansai it is quite small... I would prefer high 60s for sansai for a safe bet to reach jumbo status. Not sure how accurate is the colour tone of the picture, but its hiban looks awesome with superb shiroji.

Hi Koi@Kit,

This is an excellent fish for Show.

On the size, I personally didn't get the "Wow" factor on my first look of the koi at the dealer pond. It doesn't have a strong shoulder bone to go with.
However, it term of proportional of length verses width, this fish has not put on girth yet. So there could still be chance for her to catchup on the length in our Asia climate.

The current smaller size could be due to many reasons, such as a later spawn of the year, didn't go thru a 2nd mud pond stay in Nisai, etc, which you will probably know better on her history.

Hi kit,

I was busy on saturday so didn't turn up for the show. However, I did drop by Diamond koi on sunday and had a close look at the young GC sanke... impressive sumi.

Botan II and Rose are indeed from the Sakura line... I just don't see many offspring of Botan at koi show. From my reference, your koi was spawned on 2005.6.21

On a side note, what do you think are the chances of your Botan reaching 80cm... say within the next 2 years? I know of a prominent local hobbyist whose Sakai Rainbow bought in Oct 2006 auction as a nisai at 55cm, is now over 80cm as a sansai Shocked. He doesn't force feed his koi, just that his koi facilities are absolutely 1st rate.

Hi kit,
It is indeed an impressive kohaku with very good skin quality. The setback of our showcase is the climatic issue as Koinutx mentioned. How to maintain that lustre shine, vivid colour is a ??
Nonetheless, it is just a matter of time to master the climatic trick. Wink The set up of the filtration, the way we feed, the food and the water, (a lot more!!) etc etc will have to go into a re-think process. More experience need to be brought in to improve skills further.

I am sure we will be there. I look forward to see such beauty in your hand sometime, maybe?? Tongue

Hi Koi@Kit,

I know the dealer and his facility well and I believed he can take good care of the fish and maintain its show quality for May show. I've very good experience and result from the same dealer.Tongue

I think the dealer will have a challenging time trying to condition the fish and make it ready for the May show, as it can be quite stressful for the fish to first settle down in our water and environment, and the next moment have to be condition for show.

And to strategise for the show, looking at the size now, she may be hit 66-67cm in 3-4 months time, which will make her a disadvantage for the 70Bu, while if pushing her toward a growth rate to meet 70cm, the quality my drop....Crazy
(headache....Pirate, so let's leave it to the dealer to worry.Cool)

hi koinutx..

the owner and the dealer with my present did discuss abt this issue of whether to make the koi grow or just maintain the size.. i cant tell u more abt the decision made. i hv to get permission from the owner. Unimpressed

the dealer did his homework b4 bringing in this koi. he know better then me whether to further growing this koi Laugh

one thing for sure he will not force feed the koi to grow, lets wait til may to see the dealer's skills..Sly

HI Snowpea

First of all I really welcome you to this koi forum (Brunei). Its nice to heard from a new chatter (like you) giving opinion on topics posted by our (Grand master KoiKit) fellow member in this forum. You must be very happy and enjoyed reading such a imformative articles provided by all the other members too.

A person like you should be mature enough to read and appreciate articles posted by our Grand master (Koi@Kit). In this case what I read from your comment is not acceptable.Tongue Worst of all, a mature person (like youself) who can write this type of statement in this forum totally resembled the behaviour of a littel tyke. Wink

Hope you can post us more interesting articles in future.

thanks

Kit,
What I mean is if it is grown in a non-chiller pond, to bring out the shine and vivid colour such as those freshly imported direct from Japan,I think it will be skill tackling. Temperature is influenced by Climate and so it plays a big part in getting the ideal composition. Laugh
